While hypocrites in the White House self righteously speak out in favor of the rights of people in the Ukraine to protest, hundreds are arrested for doing the same thing (though in a more peaceful way) right in the nation's capitol. Does anyone think they wouldn't call in the National Guard if Occupy or environmentalist protests became large?

But the U.S. media barely covers this and keeps Americans' attention on complex events on the other side of the world. Most of the coverage for this is from foreign media such as RT and Al Jeezera, but there's one mention on MSN:

Keystone protesters arrested at White House

Ukraine is on a slightly different scale I think you'll find. I dare say that Putin is a far bigger threat than to what Obama and friends could ever serve up.

Of course it's on a different scale and the issues are totally different. The point is that Obama and Kerry talk as though they support free expression while they have a record of suppressing it at home.

There are also questions about who is really behind the Ukraine uprising. I admit that I'm not well informed about this, but it seems that it's more complicated than a case of people rising up against a totalitarian system. There is evidence, for example, that the U.S. may be backing fascists there.

I think they were arrested for tying themselves to the fence around the WH and also you can not stand in front of the WH anymore.

I know you're not fond of the guy but how does that translate into him suppressing free speech?

You can say whatever you want but not while tied to the WH fence or standing for long time in front of the WH.

I hope he gets the message and does not approve that pipeline.

So you think the protesters in the Ukraine are only protesting in designated areas?
The point of the original post was that the White House supports the rights of people to protest in the Ukraine while protesters here are arrested.

Perhaps you don't understand but no one can tie themselves to the WH fence or stand for long periods of time in front of the WH period.

I think you're stretching it on the arrests at the WH.

I didn't mention how many where arrested so are you saying none where? Are your blinders really on that tight?

Do you think everything the Ukraine protesters where doing was legal in their country?

                    Of course people were arrested.

By law, no person can tie themselves to the WH fence or stand in front of the WH for an extended period of time. Its the law and you can thank 9-11 for it.

That's right, to me it's not really about Obama. I only mentioned his name because he's the spokesperson who's making all these statements about the rights of people to protest around the world. I certainly don't think a republican would do anything differently, unless it was Ron Paul. It's not about parties, it's about the entrenched power structure.

Explain how a libertarian can be against premarital sex and also be against a woman's right to an abortion?

Are you saying RP won't try to prevent woman from getting an abortion by law or never slipped up and made negative comments about people getting busy before marriage? ...

...because I heard him back when you and I were going round and round about RP and your hope that he would capture the GOP nomination back in 2011.

                        That's to easy.
If I as a Libertarian am against premarital sex and against abortion, that means I wouldn't have premarital sex or would I marry someone who was pro abortion. It doesn't mean I would force my beliefs on those (or any) views I have.
                        That's what you don't get.
Unlike your party we don't believe any person has the right to regulate how another person lives.

Now you're making this about Ron Paul. I only mentioned him as an aside as an example of a Republican who might respect the rights of protesters. That doesn't mean I endorse everything he ever said.

I have trouble with both sides of the abortion issue myself - both sides hate me.

I'm not for telling women what they can do with their bodies - so the pro-lifers don't care for me. I could never personally have an abortion - so the pro-rights folks say I'm not committed.

The folks protesting are trying to get arrested to get news coverage. They are laughing and having a good time - and they don't like fossil fuels.

I expect many will get in their cars or on buses to go home after the protest - where they will turn the heat up to get warm on a cold D.C. day - turn on the electric or gas stove to fix a meal.....and talk about how they hate fossil fuels.

Did I miss something or, did the part about not being allowed to stand in front of the WH get overlooked?

Since when am I not allowed to stand on a particular place on any public sidewalk?
