Just a quick note to all the Irish, Irish Americans, part Irish and non Irish who take this splendid opportunity to drink plenty of the black stuff.

I will be finishing work when the pubs open today, I suggest you do the same.

End of public service announcement.

Top of the Mornin' to ya, Richard.

Won't be celebrating tonight, but cheers to all anyway. Be safe and let someone else do the driving.

Well, shake me shamrocks, it is St. Patricks's Day.

Who is/was St. Patrick anyway? Seriously, I haven't a clue.

Anyway, I wonder how this saint feels about how people celebrate him, lol!

Richard, have fun, but not too much and be safe!

            I like this one.

            9. Cold Weather Helped Saint Patrick's Legend

In Irish lore, Saint Patrick gets credit for driving all the snakes out of Ireland. Modern scientists suggest that the job might not have been too hard - according to the fossil record, Ireland has never been home to any snakes. Through the Ice Age, Ireland was too cold to host any reptiles, and the surrounding seas have staved off serpentine invaders ever since. Modern scholars think the "snakes" Saint Patrick drove away were likely metaphorical.

Well I'm taking a quick break from proceedings to get some food. I'm not on the green stuff I just stick with the proper Guinness. Excellent fun all round though.

I'm only part Irish but I'm of the opinion you don't even need to be Irish to enjoy the day anyway.

Thanks Terra and the facts Dan, most interesting, especially the bit about him being British, it does actually say he was born to Roman parents in Wales or Scotland around the 4th century. Very enjoyable read, many thanks.

      Cheers all!

Agreed. I'm half Irish myself. My grandmother was a Mick. I don't mean that negatively. Her last name was Mick.

You should have flown over for the day Dan. I'm a quarter Irish but I have a large extended Irish family and have had since I was five. I go over every year to stay and catch up.

That did make me laugh about Mrs Mick. Anyway I'm off before I sober up or something awful.

Since I've quit drinking many years ago, the best part of St. Patrick's day to me is the corned beef and cabbage. I'm sitting here munching on the leftovers. Love, love, love corned beef sandwiches!
