    I've always wanted to say, "Die, Alien Scum!" but I fear the reply could be, "I think not, puny human" followed by the strange sound humans make when being squished as flat as a pancake.

    That said, with the exception of a suitable means of propulsion, human technology is already capable of manufacturing an intersteller spacecraft (or, if time-to-destination (and cost) isn't a concern, we can already make one).

    So, just because an alien species might be able to travel here from somewhere else, it doesn't necessarily mean they would be centuries or more ahead of us... they might be only a few decades ahead... or even just a few years (there are all kinds of (human) technologies in development that could lead to a breakthrough in interstellar propulsion in the short to medium term... but who says it couldn't happen tomorrow!?)

      Seriously? We have leaders who are intent in taking our nukes into space - that should be reason enough. If we want to kill ourselves it might not make much difference to them - but when our warfare extends beyond the planet, if they can stop us, they will.

      So anyway to actually take this subject with some seriousness (HOLY CRAP),
      I had a dream once decades ago that I still remember, most of the details are irrelevant, but what is relevant is the part where a spaceship has landed and I am walking into the clearing to greet them.

      I have an apple in my hand (don't get all Biblical symbolic with me - its significance was food).

      The door of the ship opens just like the one in "the Day the Earth Stood Still" and a humanesque creature walks to near the end of ramp.
      We look at each other for a moment and I take a bite of the apple then hold it out to the creature.........dream cuts right there.

      This dream is one which I have remembered vividly since I had it - I even remember what I was wearing, time of year, etc. I think about it now and again.......especially when I see a thread like this one.

      If you go out into the wilds and meet with animals, they all understand the symbolism of eating something then offering the rest to them. Sharing food in human culture is also the most innate of friendship gestures. Food sharing is a gesture which is pretty unique in lifeforms - other than mothers feeding babies. The ultimate sign that leaders have gone corrupt beyond redemption is when they will horde wealth while their people are starving. It is at that point that the leaders become a danger to all and any others on the planet.

      I think maybe when they land we should give em something to eat - not a big mac. We want to make friends.

    And........we really should know right off if anyone of a superior species is vegetarian or carnivore. If you don't believe me, ask a pig or cow about that one.
