WWE - Going to the Dogs!

Huge wrestling fan here!
From big John Cena to The Undertaker, Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio
and the one and only The Rock. Tough fighting, good times!
And of course we shouldn't forget the lovely Torrie Wilson and
AJ Lee, among others.

So when I start reading headlines like this
WWE goes to the dogs, teaming with Scooby-Doo in animated film - Wrestling - MiamiHerald.com
I'm thinking, 'What's up here!?'

Bring back the Smackdown days for Jeez sakes. Cartoon dogs. Pah!

Who's your favourite star in the ring?

I grew up watching wrestling, in fact I remember when Vince's step-father ran the show.
About two years ago I downgraded my cable and don't get the channels it's on anymore
Now all I get is Ring of Honer Wrestling, which is so-so.
I liked Randy Horton when I was still able to watch it.
Going back in time I had many favorites including Bruno Sanmartino, Dawn Marie (from ECW) and the New Age Outlaws.

I used to be a big fan when I was a kid. Then I saw the Pro-Wrestling's Greatest Secrets Revealed documentary in 10th grade. It literally (okay figuratively) broke my heart! Haven't watched wrestling since. It's just soap opera for men.

Back then I used to like Shawn Michaels, Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, John Cena, Steve Austin, Brock Lesnar and pretty much every wrestler who used to be face most of the time.

I never paid much attention to the soap opera, or story lines.
I was always amazed by what men (and women) that size could do. Then you throw in people like Mick Foley and all the ECW crew for some real violence
Even with scripted matches and moves, they still go out there and risk their lives and health to entertain us.

My brother-in-law was a big fan in the late early 1990s so we and the father-in-law decided to actually go to a show.

    It was a hoot.

We had the parents in our section cracking up thanks mostly to Co Co Beware!

I don't watch anymore but I hear the characters are just as funny as the ones in the early 1990s.

      Or corny?
But who can forget Hulk Hogan, Razor Ramon, Yokozuna, Diesel, Bret Hart and the great Stone Cold Steve Austin! Shawn Michaels too. Oh, and hard man Mick Foley!

      The 90's were solid gold!

        What about...

Stan the man Staziack with his heart punch?

Ravishing Rick Rude with his signature move the Rude Awakening?

The lovely Ms. Elizabeth and Randy Macho Man Savage?

The Undertaker and his manager Paul Baerer who sounded a lot like that dude who recently ran for the U.S. senate - who was saying something like a child of rape is a gift from God.

Remember The Million Dollar Man or The Red Rooster who was poultry in motion?

There were two really crazy guys from Australia - I can't remember their names.

There also was a character named IRS.

Going back further there was Andre The Giant, Chief Jay Strongbow and the Iron Shiek - with the Iron Claw who was friends with Professor Tura Tanaka - master of the dust in your face trick.

On Saturday morns they supplied lots of laughs.

Dunno the other one? Bill Dundee - he did compete in WCW.

I'm pretty sure TL was thinking of the Bushwackers.

            Here's a few I didn't see mentioned:

            The Ultimate Warrior
            Ronny "Hands of Stone" Garvin
            George "The Animal" Steel
            Junkyard Dog
            Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka
            Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat
            Diamond Dallas Page
            "Polish Power" Ivan Putski
            Nikolai Volkoff
            Corporal Kirchner

When I was a kid and wrestling was on Saturday morning for a half hour, they always had a "scientific" match. That match was always a straight wrestling match where they would only use real wrestling holds and moves. That was always the match I liked best and the type of match I miss the most.

I have been into wrestling since the 60's. I remember when the WWWF used to hold tv tapings in the old Philadelphia Arena. Old Vince was a very young announcer getting abused by managers and wrestlers.
I don't watch wrestling much today. too many superstars not enough wrestlers. I will watch ROH or New Japan but not much else entertains me. Give me the old days of ECW, World Class Championship Wrestling, pre Turner WCW, WWF - before Hulk hogan. Now my memories are a part of vince's WWE Network. I'd rather pull out my old vhs tapes than watch today's WWE Raw.

Back in the days of Dominic DeNucci, Larry Zbyszko, Killer Kowalski, 'Crazy' Luke Graham, Haystacks Calhoun was good too, Huge guy! Dino Bravo, before they shot him. Tito Santana, Superstar Billy Graham - more 'Hulk' than Hulk Hogan!
And then Andre the Giant, who ruled forever! Pedro Morales, Italian wonder Bruno Sammartino. So many great, great champions!
