"Claudia Fritz (a scientist who studies instrument acoustics) and Joseph Curtin (a violin-maker) may have discovered the real secret to a Stradivarius’s sound: nothing at all."

Violinists can’t tell the difference between Stradivarius violins and new ones

How Overrated?
Stradivarius viola could bring over $45M at Sotheby's sale

Going along with this theme, if I took a stab at satire and comedy, I wouldn't be able to come up with something to match this unintentionally hilarious news piece (featuring a Guarnerius violin):

Who woulda thought? People rave about Stradivarius string instruments. More pretentious nonsense perhaps? May as well trade my old one in for a new violin if they sound the same. Anyone want an overrated Stradie for $20? Plus a few mill.

I'm all for collecting antiques. Why not invest 20 k in one-of-kind antiques likely to go up in value than in buying a car which would likely reduce in value...unless it was a collector's model and, if so, think 1 mil rather than 20k. Try not to drool, reading this:

Stradivarius made what WAS considered a great violin, and perhaps the best 300 years ago.

There have been DOZENS of MAJOR related advancements, like improved finish, improved wood processing, improved string production, improved acoustics, etc...
And it NOW has the-perceived brand value, etc... You don't REALLY think it is bought as an INSTRUMENT, do you?
