Sure this has been done before but their are always new ones to name-drop!

Have you ever met, talked to, been friends with, corresponded with on or offline., or just been in close proximity to a celebrity. Can be in any field, entertainment, scientist, whatever.

My list:

Elizabeth 11 Queen of England, close proximity

Mike Oldfield, met

Gary Numan, met (came to our party)

Pauline Quirk, met

Quite a few others to list as I remember them..

I lived where a lot of rock stars became famous so knew several, dated a few, been told before so not going to go all over it again.

My grandfather had a really interesting friendship, though. Vincent Price. Grandad used to go to the Yucatan peninsula once a year and met him there, and met up with him again there several times. I was always hoping I'd get to meet him, too, but never did.

In this town, close proximity to celebs is an everyday thing, so I'll leave those off. I've done stand-up comedy on the same bill with some famous or semi-famous names like Larry David, Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover), Brett Butler, Maria Bamford, others. In college I knew Drew Carey fairly well. In high school I interviewed many classic rock bands for my high school newspaper: Black Sabbath, REO, Boston, etc.

Fame seems fantastic and terrifying at the same time.

That's interesting, and makes me jealous.

I'm reasonably close friends with several marketing Gurus. But names anyone would know? Not that I remember.

I've had dinner with Batman. That was fun.

Yeah, me, too. I was very disappointed that I never got to meet him. Especially when grandad got up to name dropping and would tell us stories about stuff they did together out there.

I have a problem with actually meeting stars that I really don't know what to say to them. They can be practically breathing in my face and I don't know what to say. When I was young and in with the rockstar party crowd it was easier - but now? So you tell them you like their work? That's not a very good opening to strike up a real conversation. If I'm going to talk to someone famous - I want to really talk to them, not just be another head pump for their ego.

Steve; It's spelled Psychically. You were psychically close to several. And why would you make such a claim? We weren't even talking about psychics.

Well, first of all, never use the word "flesh" around Claude. The result is creepy at best, severely traumatizing at worst. No amount of acid can burn the image from your retinas.

Also, surprisingly, he's not as goofy looking in real life as you'd think.

    Holy Crap. I forgot Mel.

I met Mel Gibson. My friend was just drooling about him and I remembered I met him briefly.

I was in Columbia (Columbus?) MT - it's West of Billings. Mel had a ranch in that area at the time. He might still have it. Anyway there's a bar there that has taxidermied animals all over the place and the most famous one is the two headed goat. I went in for a drink just to go and see what all the local hubub was over the place. I was at the bar having coffee and saw Mel tanking it on with a friend and asked the bartender if it was him. The bartender said yes, but whatever I did, don't mention his movies or he'd get mad - refused to talk "work" while he was playing. So I didn't know what to say to him so just didn't. I drank my coffee and left.

I got outside and let Munchie out of the rig to go potty and get a drink, yadda, yadda, and while we were there Mel came out of the bar. He came over and told me what a beautiful dog Munch was. I said "thanks". Mel took a few steps toward us to get closer to Munch, maybe pet him. Well, Mel was loaded and Munch didn't want him any closer and lowered his head and growled. Mel stood up straight and his eyebrows raised and he backed up and said "Seems like good protection for ya". I laughed and Mel just turned around and wandered off.

Funny the crap we forget when it's something that's not really of any importance to ya.

It varies. Daniel Craig, about 2 metres away. Ashton Kutcher, I shook hands with, and we talked about one of his work projects. Miley Cyrus, close enough to see her lingerie straps. Sandra Bullock, 1 metre - nice figure! The others varied. Not too close to Bono but I could hear that he sounded a bit like a woman, with his soft voice. Reece Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson were only a few feet away too.

I'm with you Biz. I'd run the other way if Miley came near me, mind you, if she accidentally stuck her tongue out I'd probably get knocked further away than I could run.

I can only assume she kept her monstrous tongue inside her mouth when David met her, or it'd be physically impossible to get "up close" with her.

Yep, I used to work at Krochs & Brentanno's Bookstore in the mid 80's. I don't know what the attraction was with books but I met loads of stars and actually still have an autograph book that a bunch of us kept. I got to talk to Jamie Lee Curtis. Up close, Richard Dreyfuss, Dom Deluise, Diana Ross, Sidney Sheldon, Howie Mandel, Mr. T. (not very nice), Oprah & Stedman, Mike Tyson, Marlee Matlin, Pearl Bailey, (boy was she loud !) and the very beautiful Lena Horne. Michael Jackson came when I was off and he wanted them to close the store for him and the stupid assistant mgr said no ???????????? So, I heard he just left. I could go on. Oh I did meet his mother. Many years ago I was actively involved in live theatre, especially Theatresports which is improvised stand up comedy for those who haven't heard of it.

I live in Australia so most people I have worked with or seen are possibly not well known names. However, I also performed in a few movies and tv shows as well.

I also drove taxis on anf off for years and had a few well-known people in my cab.

So the list goes on in no particular order: George Kapiniaris, Colin Friels, Russell Gilbert, Lano and Woodley (when they were still performing together), Garry Mcdonald, The late Ruth Cracknell (in my cab) David Downer, Maggie Kirkpatrick, Brian Mccarthy (the late), Kylie Minogue, Dannii Minogue.... this liust could go on for miles probably but my brain is a bit numb right now so I may come back and add more later.

Having worked in the entertainment industry, I don't view "stardom" or "fame" in the same way as most people here I suspect. In some ways I was considered a "star" in some points in time too.

I thought about starting a thread on this topic. I've known two people who were later wanted for murder -one kind of famous case and they cannot find the guy. I went to college with a guy who later went down in the Quest phone company scandal.

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

I've met a lot of famous people. Here are the ones that come to mind:

    Ted Williams
    Bobby Kennedy
    Teddy Kennedy
    Tippi Hedren
    Melanie Griffith
    Jamie Lee Curtis
    Kathleen Quinlen
    Billy Dee Williams
    Bo Diddley
    Lyle Lovett
    Steve Tyler
    Brad Witford
    Tony Robbins
    Mark Victor Hansen
    Jack Canfield

I think that about covers it. I met Jamie Lee Curtis, Kathleen Qunilen and Melanie Griffith in 1980 on a movie set in San Pedro, California. They were all just starting out. The gal I was dating at the time was close friends with Kathy. They were shooting a TV movie, She's In The Army Now. It was a knockoff of the smash hit, Private Benjamin. I actually became friends with Kathy.

It really depends on your definition of celebrity and on what scale you are talking about.

Having said that, they are people too so I won't necessarily name them here.

I was on Dr. Phil once.

It was back in Fall of 2007. We had just moved to Hollywood as my wife got a traveling nurse position with USC.

It was pretty cool. The topic was a very serious one. ( They do not tell you what it is about until it happens right there when you are in the Studio) It was about a crazy mom who ended up burying her baby alive and they were trying to bring light information that would lead to her conviction.

Her family was on the show and she was in a live video from jail.

It was funny but they put the camera on me and my wife for like 20 seconds in the audience.

My Aunt in Georgia happened to be watching this episode and immediately saw us with the close up. She called my Mom to tell her.

My grandparents still have that segment on DVR with our closeup of us after all these years.

    My 15 minutes of fame

P.S. I also saw big pussy walking down to Venice beach and said hey to him.
