I need to dial 911 :(

For those that don't know, 911 is the number for general emergency in the US.

I just got done watching 2 episodes of "sex sent me to the ER"! So now, see an ad for this show "outrageous 911"! The first one, a person hoped onto an 18wheeler and was horrified to find it was going to the freeway, so he called 911. Before this last commercial, a woman said she bought two bottles of beer, and needed two policeman to come down and open them. And the operator said she would send them out!

WAAAH I WANT A BUTLER! And I am going to have to stay up. Maybe *I* should call 911!

Some people just don't get it. I read about a woman who called 911 from a fast-food restaurant because her fries were cold when she got them. It takes all kinds . . . unfortunately.

People can actually get arrested for calling 911 for non-emergency related issues. Sound like these cases should have just been given a healthy fine at the least. Lets put more fluoride in the water - maybe that will help huh?

They had one guy that sounded like he was too drunk to talk, and he said he was too drunk to drive. He called 911 to get police to drive him to get beer. MAN! They are supposed to be civil servants, but not THAT kind. One guy even said he wanted a police escort to some hiphop event in florida. And that morphed to taking a helicopter there. One mother, in line, in front of her kids, demanded that 911 get them to get her order right in a fast food place.

You KNOW you have problems when you have enough of these to make a series, and I think it was a series.

There was actually a case here in Australia a few weeks ago where someone rang the police to report some of his/her marijuana plants were stolen.

The cops busted him/her and let the "thieves" get away with it.

I hope that person goes to jail forever. Not because of the crime of growing illegal plants, but in the hope they never get to breed.

They can still send/receive mail, do online dating, get married, have conjugal visits. Women even get prenatal care. Mississippi apparently plans to get rid of that though.

Get rid of what ... prenatal care? If they incarcerate you, they do have to provide healthcare and prenatal care is healthcare for an innocent victim... the child.

I think conjugal visits should be disallowed for long-timers (real long timers), but for short timers, I think it benefits the state to allow them. It helps to keep the family bonds and connections strong which can be a good thing when they return to society.

What do you think about education?

I was talking to a couple the other day and they were all against
prisoners getting an education ... on their dime.

Seriously they went off on how people get masters and more for free
and there kids have to pay off student loans.

It was a quick conversation ... as i don't have any knowledge on the
                subject ... therefore no opinion.

I did however have a little fun poking at the obvious hot button.

The answer really lies in what the function and purpose of prison is. Is there a hope for rehabilitation or is it all just for punishment. IMO, prisoners who are deemed capable of rehabilitation ... well, I think it is in societys' best interest that some education be provided, some alcohol/drug rehabilitation if required, maintaining strong family/community ties, etc.

That being said, there are many criminals that I don't believe are good candidates for rehabilitation, and that should be determined by the nature of their crimes, how many times they've been in prison, etc. and I wouldn't waste a dime on them, except to provide medical care and food.

Why SHOULD prisoners that likely have no right to ever use such degrees, get advanced degrees? If we should pay for ANYTHING, let it be highschool. If they want higher, they can try to stay out of prison and do it THEMSELVES.

                    What does that mean?

I mean if they want a college education, they should pay for it like everyone else! And they may not even leave jail long enough to have a use for any such thing.

At least with CITIZENS, they are guaranteed a chance to attend school through 12th grade. Even THERE, I don't know if people over 18, that have been through the grades, can attend school for free. ALSO, they will probably just be taught the basics to pass the GED anyway, if they are over 18.

Steve ... don't go nuts. Prisoners are citizens too. They've just lost a few rights temporarily. Look at how many marajuana users have been incarcerated for a "crime" that many people don't think is a crime, and in fact is being decriminalized by several states now.

There are plenty of non-violent offenders that have a strong likelihood of rehabilitation or never should have been in jail to start with.

Well, given what I have seen of many marijuana users, I don't know if that would make a difference anyway. Think what you want, it generally IS a choice. When I was a kid, in California, a lot of people wore these shirts that conveyed the idea that less than 1ounce was treated as a misdemeanor. BTW less than one year of school won't help. how things line up in the US aren't really standard. With how things are NOW, they are being thrown on their ear so much that people may even have to learn how to add again! What is 4-3? CAREFUL, 1 might not be the answer!

BTW I went to school with a guy distributing marijuana. He was black and did NOT go to jail. Obviously, a lot of whites HAVE gone to jail. I think saying it is racist is a bit silly. STILL, if blacks feel that way, why not just stop doing it?

I have the ten digit number for my hometown police and fire.

If I do call 911 with a non-emergency - such as to report a minor
    car accident - I always specify non-emergency, but here's what's
happening... I've read that they are ok with that.

One time I locked my keys in my car with the engine running and my
dog inside. It was in a bank parking garage where security was tight
because of a bad robbery that happened a few years before. This was
after police/fire stopped popping locks because of potential liability, but
they deemed it an emergency because of the dog. (I don't recall if I
called 911 or building security called the fire department because they
wanted my vehicle gone.) Feel stupid, but it was a brand new to me
    Explorer.

I'd like an omelet with avocados, mushrooms and cheddar, please.
    Oh, crispy hash browns, too.
