Russia recently started to look towards the Ukraine again, and is moving to the east.

This admin did what I originally said was a stupid and senseless move by trying to ridicule and insult Russia. Frankly, they were ASKING for trouble with no hope of achieving their goals. Even if they were right, and russia was humbled, they would merely build things up and watch the west more. Well, a russian news head decided to respond to one of the most recent insults!

Russian news head: We can bomb US into

A government-backed Russian TV journalist warned that his country could turn the United States into "radioactive ash" Sunday as the Obama administration threatened action if Russia annexes Crimea in the wake of Sunday's secession vote.
"Russia is the only country in the world that is realistically capable of turning the United States into radioactive ash," Dmitry Kiselyov said on his weekly program.
Kiselyov -- handpicked by Russian President Vladimir Putin last year to head a new state news agency -- made the inflammatory remarks standing in front of a photo of a mushroom cloud.
Here he is actually saying it:

Well YEAH, but the current admin talked about russia like they were just some little country. They were belittled and then called a "regional power". If there is a bully, ESPECIALLY a powerful one, the last thing you want to do is something like that in relative calm. Besides, it really had no hope of ending well anyway.

Russia has people all over. And the closer you get to the country, the highr the concentration is. Who knows, they could even go to poland, swallow up poland, and attack germany. This could become the "start" of WWIII.

Hm... It was popular here in Norway to marry Russian mail order brides in the 90's. Maybe Putin will invade Norway and annex us because of this?

Who knows? At least I don't think the scandinavian countries have been a part of, or antagonistic to russia. Poland and parts of germany are different. But many feel Putin may want to rebuild russia. Don't forget. Once he took power, he kicked out those that helped put him there.

I think the best way to handle him is through mutual respect from a position of strength. The strength part, for the us, has declined for over a decade. The respect part went out the window not long after the move on crimea. That is to say that how I would have handled it is simply no longer possible, though I would have wanted him to simply back off and THAT was out of the question a couple days before the move.

This is such a complex mess, that it could go all the way!

And all the US, secret toys wont, stop it, (Russia has its own toys as well).

Good to know that UFO reports over missile silos, (turning off the power) means that if we are dumb enough to go all the way, that intimately we won't destroy the planet in the process!

At least we will cause a nuclear winter, no more global warming!

          Shhhh! Don't give them ideas's.

In all fairness, with the amount of troops and fire power Russia has on the Ukrainian border, if they go in, it'll be over pretty fast and I don't think anyone will be foolish enough to go up against them. I'm with Sarevok to some extent, Putin is a smart and ruthless man and he knows everyone knows it.

It's one nasty situation and it's also having the detrimental effect of putting Syria and other areas in the back of peoples minds.

Which brides are in fashion nowadays in Norway?

Actually, that would be a very clever strategy to make inroads into other nations. Oh wait, they've been doing it for many decades. Who else is doing that? Maybe Rupert Murdoch might know? ()

Why Rupert Murdoch? Thre have been plenty of movie and series references to russian brides, and I believe I saw it on several documentaries, so it must be fairly popular in the US. And WHY do the russian women do this? It is a fast tracked way to get to, be acclimated to, and become a citizen of, the US.

Heck yeah! Even NCIS had an episode where a military guy married and had a child by a chinese spy. Luckily, SHE ended up changing her views, IIRC.

The point is that the US has no business in Ukraine politics, much less to get cocky with another super power. Just because we can tromple little countries like Iraq and Afghanistan is no reason for it to go to our leader's heads and insult and threaten a super-power. WTF is wrong with the people we have in office. If they want to be suicidal - lets lock them all up together and let them go for it without taking down half the world with them. Sick of these sociopaths.

The truth is that Putin is aggressive (As in he wants to expand Russia) and has zero respect for the United States.

(He's also VERY "street smart". More street-smart than the American administration... In their collective accumulation). Putin is a strategic giant. He knows that America is weakened, and can't fathom/afford a world war.

It's my hypothesis that no major world-conflict breaks out as a result of this; America sure as hell won't directly confront Russia, nor will Russia directly confront America. (They will not comply with one another, but I don't think USA has stomach for a world war, which is ultimately the only way to prevent Putin from land-snatching).

Russia will ultimately gain power, and land.

After the defeat of their friends in Iraq, Libya and the Syrians also giving up their chemical weapons, you can score one for Russia and Putin - right along their own border - where everyone already knows no one can do much about it.

And once again, anyone could have predicted if there were any problems along Russian borders like the Ukraine situation, Putin would push back as hard as he could and do whatever he could to keep those former Soviet Republics in the Russian orbit.

Street smarts have nothing to do with it.

Will the Russkies take over the whole of Ukraine or install a puppet government there?

Your guess is as good as mine.

You guys should all checkout what's being said on the blog of Jack Matlock he's the former US Ambassador to the Soviet Union under Reagen/Bush snr. he says more sense than I lot of people I see in the media.

          Here & Now: A Blog |

There's a lot of distortion of truth on both sides, but Russia is distorting the situation more. Some of the stuff coming out of Hawks like John McCain, Fox news is pure drivel, but I sometimes watch the Russia Today network and some of their spin is even more ludicrous. There are however a hell of a lot of westerners who actually sympathise with Putin because they think every foreign policy decision by the US is a neocon chess game- under Bush I'd probably agree but even given Obama's flaws i think he means well at heart. But it does no favours to the US when they see themselves (rightly or wrongly) as the world policemen when many countries resent American foreign policy after Iraq and the War On Terror.

The background is also very complex, Gorbachev was promised that NATO would not expand after the end of the Cold War, which has been reneged on numerous times. Also people Like John McCain were seen schoomzing with pseudo fascist groups like Right Sector before the change of government and I know a few Russians who think it was a CIA inspired coup like in Chile in the 70s. Also have Ukraine in NATO could be like a tinderbox. I broadly support NATO, but most intelligent commentators I've read have said they should stay out of Ukraine as it's history & culture is much closer to Russia's than that of the EU.

But there is no doubt a lot of neighbouring states in the Baltics, former Warsaw Pact countries like Poland who are are weary of Russia and probably suffered more under Stalin and his henchmen then they did under Hitler during World War 2 and during the cold war. Poland is particularly hawkish towards Russia and are very enthusiastic about NATO. I've spent a lot of time in former Soviet countries in Eastern Europe and saw the devastation left by Stalin's iron fist so can see why. Nobody forced these countries to join NATO unlike how Russia forced so many of them to join the Soviet Empire after World War 2.

John Mccain is NOT conservative. He may be a RINO(or called Republican), but if you look, you can see he is not conservative. ICSM

But YEAH, as I said earlier, if you knew russian and ukrainian, and were there, MAYBE you could get a decent opinion.

    1. Is Putin telling the truth about his primary trigger here? MAYBE
    2. Is it only due to Russian desires misleading putin in a contrived coup? MAYBE
    3. Is there any truth to the talks about SVOBODA? MAYBE
    4. Is there any truth that they were both directly supported by the SAME people? MAYBE
    5. Was it all contrived by the UKRAINIAN government? MAYBE
    6. Was RT telling the truth? MAYBE
    7. Will we ever know for sure? Probably NOT!

I WILL tell you that supposedly SVOBODA wasn't threatening the russians. That film "I am ukrainian" was easily proven to be FAKE! They have, BY THEIR OWN ADMISSION, unrelated archival footage, and it was put out by a propaganda organization based in the US. The girl might have been ukrainian. She might even have been concerned. But it is likely she was in Los Angeles, or New York, when she did that speech.

You start to wonder how much ELSE was fake.

BTW WHO would say NATO wouldn't expand? It HAD to expand. That is it's purpose. Do nation change? Is the population increasing? Then YES, it had to expand. And with 28 members, who could talk for them:

Well, we KNOW is is really B/S tension, but the question is who is the bad guy. Is it russia? The Ukraine? The Media? The old leader? WHO KNOWS?

At least YOU can likely, if you are actually from russia, watch THEIR "legitimate news", and get the somewhat unfiltered version of what THEY are saying.

I'm still stuck with this pie in the sky image (purely imaginary, I realize) that is the dream of most civilians everywhere, that troops from all countries concerned in something that explosive, would just lay down their guns and tell them, "fight your own wars, dipsticks".

Sigh. Yeah, I know. What a day for a daydream...........
