I like most movies that have some plot other than violence, endless car chases, and gratuitous sex. (eeeeewwww)
I am a classic and independent movie 'buff' I guess you could say, Hare Digital Cable TV. Some of my most favorites are Wuthering Heights (both old and new versions - Olivier & Dalton) Eraserhead - David Lynch Rebecca The Ghost & Mrs Muir Vertigo Picnic Portrait of Jennie Love is a Many Splendered Thing Summer and Smoke Three Faces of Eve East of Eden David & Lisa All Charlie Chaplin, Lilian Gish and Greta Garbo films - silent and talkies Most silent films circa 1917 on up Repo Man and Rock & Roll Highschool - for the music Sid & Nancy Racing With the Moon X-Files Twin Peaks ... i think that covers the basics... |

I have to ask, how many of you that list Lord Of The Rings (any of the three,or all three) have also read the books?
While they may be decent movies, they did the books an injustice left and right. Peter Jackson had a great opportunity in his grasp and he let it slip through his fingers, as far as being faithful to the story. Other than that, they are an enjoyable watch. |

My favorite movie is Twilight! I thought it was totally overrated until I watched it and fell in love with it! I can't wait for New Moon to come out in November - I'm reading the book now!
So, I'm spoiling it a bit, but there are always differences between the book and the movie!

Yes, I agree with KimW. Although I do love The Lord of the Rings movies and I have the collection (extended versions), the movies are not as good as the books. I must have read the books a least a dozen times each. I have almost every Tolkien book.
Other movies I love: Titanic, Gone With The Wind, The Rose, Ben-Hur, Star Wars (Episode IV), Raiders of the Lost Ark, Chronicles of Narnia, The Way We Were, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Braveheart, Mad Max, and many more... |

I got several favourite movies.
I like movies where you at first dont know what is happening, and at the end you get a wow effect .Example Lucky Number Slevin with Bruce Willis I recommend this movie to everyone who didnt watch it yet. Else I like The Departed (I like such movies) and I like al pacino movies. I watched all of his movies and liked 90 % ![]() So my favourite movies are (if you didn't watch them, do it, I don't watch boring movies): Lucky Number Slevin, The Departed, Carlito's Way, The Godfather, ... |

Like most, I can't pick just one, or 10, or 100. So many movies are great in their own way.
Gotta give kudos to Cinema Paradiso. Also have to mention Brazil. Saw that at a midnight showing on the night I graduated from High School, and it blew my mind. It was the first movie I saw that made me think motion pictures could in fact, be an art form. Of course I have watched Captain Ron about a thousand times, and will probably see it another thousand before I'm through. |

Another vote for LOTR(yes I've read the books), specially the Two Towers, with Viggo Mortensen as an added bonus.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, two love stories, beautiful. Moulin Rouge! Gloriously over the top. Last of the Mohicans, brilliant scenery and music. Calamity Jane, good wholesome fun plus Howard Keels' voice. The Empire Strikes Back, Lucas before it all went horribly wrong. West Side Story, superb music and choreography. |

EDIT- Hancock was great. Many many more. EDIT 2 - Watchmen is one of the greatest movies ever made. Period. |

I'm a total sucker for happy endings and fairy tale romances. My absolute favorite movie of all time would be Ever After, which is that whimsical take on the Cinderella story where Drew Barrymore Starred in, saw it like 40 times i think. Next would have to be My Best Friends Wedding, I loved Julia Roberts in that movie!

Hard to believe no ones mentioned any of Akira Kurasawa's films.
Two of his best - Seven Samurai I can sit down at any point in this movie and be totally absorbed. Ran Medieval Japanese take on King Lear. Unbelievable cinematography. Michael Oksa, Johnny Twennies was a character in Man of the Century. |

Im gonna go with one of the batman movies by Christopher Nolan. Still waiting on a new batman movie and hoping to see the same actors and directors. I think it would be a shame if Nolan didn't do the next one. Or the rest of them from here on out.

I agree with a lot of the others mentioned (now I want to go watch them again) but "Cool Hand Luke" for me is right up at the top of my list. John |

This is such an easy question for me! My all-time favorite movie by far is Apollo 13.
I was 6-years-old when the first satellite was put into orbit and had just graduated from High School a month or so before Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin stepped onto the Moon. In other words, I literally grew up with the space program. Apollo 13 was especially of interest to me because I remember when it was actually happening and everyone said that the astronauts were sure to die. They didn't have enough oxygen to make it back. Their air cleaning system was broken and poisoning their air. The spacecraft had no power for heat so they nearly froze to death! The engine that they would need to return them to Earth had not been designed to do that! Then the amazing guys at NASA put their skills to work and brought them back alive anyway. That story and movie were both simply unbelievable, yet true! |
