I just saw Inglorious Basterds today. It's my new favorite movie. I think it's Tarrantino's best yet.

Pretty much everything Steven and Michael listed. But I have to add Support your local Sherrif, Jaws, Night of the Living Dead, Underworld (only because of Kate) Serendipty (Kate again) Planet of the Apes (the original), The Omega Man, Soilent Green, The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, Dawn of the Dead (the original), Halloween and Halloween 2 (the original) Friday the 13th part 1, The Patriot, Braveheart, Terminator, Die Hard, Shawshank Redemption, Sergeant York and I actually liked the new Star Trek movie. There are so many I cant just pick one.

Kung Fu Panda has so many messages hidden inside, as well as the obvious messages. Although it's a cartoon, it's shockingly correct on so many levels... and I wonder why so many people stop watching animation movies, because they often make more sense and have more lessons than real movies!

In no particular order; - The Lord Of The Rings (the whole lot - extended versions - Technical note: TLOTR is not a trilogy, it is one story. The Godfather and The Omen are trilogies. So is the Bourne series until they make another one. And yes, I first read TLOTR back in 1978, and have read it many times since then, a few of those after the movies came out.) - The above mentioned Bourne Trilogy - Good Will Hunting - Citizen Kane - years ahead of it's time - War Of The Worlds (the original - still the only film to give me nightmares when I first saw it at 9 or 10 yo) - One Flew Over The Cockoos Nest - Nicholson at his best - On The Waterfront - Brando at his best - Monty Python And The Holy Grail - comedy at its best, "We've found a witch, may we burn her" - classic stuff - Airplane (would be the funniest film ever if not for MP&THGrail: Trivia fans please note this film and its sequel were called "Flying High" in Australia for some reason) - Apocalypse Now - "Some day this war's gonna end. Sigh.", "I love the smell of napalm in the morning", "Inside the heart of every man there is a conflict between good and evil, and good does not always win.", "Terminate. With extreme prejudice". Some of the most memorable lines ever committed to film. And who can listen to Wagner's "The Ride Of The Valkyrie" without thinking of helicopters after this film came out. - Schindlers List - Lest we forget - The Sexy Beast - Ben Kingsley is nothing short of brilliant in this, whether you like the movie or not, you WILL be blown away by his performance. - Sleuth - A murder whodunnit with only 2 suspects played by Michael Caine and Larry Olivier. In fact they are the only two characters in the film. Despite this you will be kept guessing right up until the end which one of them committed the murder. Both give brilliant performances as well. - The Castle - a true family values flick with a bit of David v Goliath thrown in. Best Aussiie film ever. - Thirteen Days - for me this is more of a personal film as I was actually born on the 14th day, or if you like the day after the Cuban Missile Crisis ended. If things had not gone the way they did, I could have been born on the day the world ended. There's a cheery thought. After that we need some light relief, so... - When Harry Met Sally - the only romantic comedy worth watching - Team America - the third funniest film ever. "Have you ever seen a grown man eat his own head", It also has the best view of politics ever by the guy in the bar, "See son, there are three types of people in the world, d---s, p-----s and a------s". Hilarious. |

Bridge Over the River Kwai - Alec Guiness , Jack Hawkins brilliant. The best war movie ever. The Great Escape - true story. Empire Of The sun - Christian Bale Goodfellas - Joe Pesci: "Do I amuse you?" , " Come on tell me! , what's so funny about me? Unforgiven - Clint Eastwood Pale Rider " Dirty Harry " Richard III - Lawrence Olivier, with the best portrayal of evil I've see. The Italian job - the original one with Michael Caine. Planet of the Apes - first one with Charlton Heston 2001 A Space Oddessy Jurassic Park - Number 1 |

Huh, with all the different genres there isn't just one. I like Batman Begins for the hero comic type. The game with Michael Douglas for suspense. All the terminators for action. Thats probably a good start.

THE SHINING!!! Don't you all agree that Jack Nicholson is superb in this movie! Speaking of Jack, Mars Attacks! is fun, but corny. Dressing up like one of the martians tonight for Halloween!

Am I the only one here who thought that Curious Case of Benjamin Button was nothing short of brilliant? I walked away from the theater thinking about that movie for weeks -- one of the only movies that has even had that effect on me. |

Titanic...after 12 years and countless watches, I still cannot stop myself from a broken heart and tears when Rose goes "Jack...Jack..." *cries* Nayagan - it's an Indian godfather flick...loosely based on a real life don Kill Bill Vol 1. - Fabulous River Dogs - great ending and oh plenty more but I'll end it here. The thing is a movie can be crap for 3/4s of the duration BUT if the ending is great, I will consider it a well made movie. Vice versa. I'm big on endings I don't know why, it makes or breaks a movie for me |

I love the Pianist and had to buy a copy after seeing it. I am a total Adrian Brody fan after that. I always answer 'Wuthering Heights' any version when asked this question but tonight I watched 'Vertigo' on Turner Classics for probably the 10th time (also have the video) and I have to say that it still totally enthralls me. It is one of Hitchcock's finest movies ever IMHO -- and that is saying a lot since they are all so good. Also 'The Green Mile' (Stephen King) with Tom Hanks is a really fine movie that I watch every time I see it on cable. I would like to buy the video. It is a really beautiful but sad horror movie. |

21, Forest Gump, Hitchcock. I rarely watch movies (I don't go out and see the new ones when they come out in theaters, usually it's us ordering one on demand or at a friend's house), but I've seen some really good ones. Problem is, I forget about them lol. The three I mentioned are some of my favs though. Oh man, I just remembered one that was absolutely amazing. Title... title... title... I'll edit later when (if) I figure it out. |

Hello: I am a movie buff and have a large collection of videos and DVDs, so I can't pick just one favorite. However, in the Drama genre, here is a contender: Once Upon a Time in America, 1983, with Robert Deniro, James Woods and other great actors. Warning: this is a LONG movie - 226 minutes, but I HIGHLY recommend it. GT |

The books were excellent. The movies were excellent. Considering what they had to work with, I think Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Phillipa Boyens did quite well. For example, the books are kind of cut in half. Where half the book follows one part of the Fellowship, and then the second half follows another. That just wouldn't work in a movie. There were some major things that were left out, changed, or otherwise "enhanced", but that doesn't make them bad movies, for movies. If the books had never been writeen, but the movies were...they would be awesome movies. So, I simply enjoy the books for what they are, and enjoy the movies for what they are. Epic story telling that has to fit the constraints of the medium in which they are delivered. Also, the screenwriters, and many of the cast and crew, are HUGE fans of Tolkien and did not want to do it a disservice. All the best, Michael "For Frodo!" | |
