Hello:
I am a movie buff and have a large collection of videos and DVDs, so I can't pick just one favorite. However, in the Drama genre, here is a contender: Once Upon a Time in America, 1983, with Robert Deniro, James Woods and other great actors. Warning: this is a LONG movie - 226 minutes, but I HIGHLY recommend it. GT

I have to say my favourite movie of all time, hands down is Casablanca.
Always have loved it, always will. Bogie, Ingrid, Morocco, WWII and As Time Goes By. What's not to love? Sharon |

The books were excellent. The movies were excellent. Considering what they had to work with, I think Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Phillipa Boyens did quite well. For example, the books are kind of cut in half. Where half the book follows one part of the Fellowship, and then the second half follows another. That just wouldn't work in a movie. There were some major things that were left out, changed, or otherwise "enhanced", but that doesn't make them bad movies, for movies. If the books had never been writeen, but the movies were...they would be awesome movies. So, I simply enjoy the books for what they are, and enjoy the movies for what they are. Epic story telling that has to fit the constraints of the medium in which they are delivered. Also, the screenwriters, and many of the cast and crew, are HUGE fans of Tolkien and did not want to do it a disservice. All the best, Michael "For Frodo!" | |

I really can't make up my mind. I have many dvds. i went to film school ;-D
One solid movie is "Batman Begins" Christopher Nolan did an excellent job. Script is top notch, production quality A+, and the acting... well, some of my favorite actors are in it: * Gary Oldman (one of my favorite of all-time!) * Michael Caine (can't beat this guy... what a way to deliver a line!) * Morgan Freeman (super believable in any roll) * Liam Neeson (This guy is awesome!) * Tom Wilkinson (this guy is british, playing an italian... whoa!) * Rutger Hauer (loved him in Blade Runner - another favorite) * Cillian Murphy (this guy just looks psychotic - and delivers a great performance) ...and last but certainly not least: * Chritain Bale (one of the best actors of his generations - watch "the machinist") yes, this movie is in the Top 10 and its a shame I haven't seen this in other Top 10 lists. Another thing is the score... it really compliments the movie. Watch it again and Let me know what you think of Batman Begins. -C p.s. Another gem is "Quantum of Solace" - 1 hour 46 minutes of pure Bond done in an artistic, stylized way... kudos to the production team ;-D |

Michael O said:"If the books had never been writeen, but the movies were...they would be awesome movies."
Probably so, but the books were written and the movies that were made differentiated enough from the books to make it a different story from the books. As I said before, the books were great, and the movies were ok, but the movies are not the same story that is in the book, and for a great many of us, its the story that got our attention, not the special effect possibilites. Come to Middle Earth. |

My favorite movie as of the moment is "500 Days of Summer." It's very honest and depicts the reality of life. No pretentions and fairy tale endings on love. I loved it so much!

Gladiator (love the soundtrack and find it very inspirational) and Shawshank Redemption mainly because they test the human spirit and show us how strong we really are!
