They should be. Rich is not a right to be dishonest.

Cops vowed to crack down on bib forgery after last year's terror attack that took the lives of three people.
What did that have to do with the bombing? Nothing - the bombers weren't running in the race and "bib forgery" had nothing to do with the bombing.

This couple was wrong to decide what they wanted to do was more important than what was allowed. It's become too common in this country to decide "what I want" overrides rules/law/decency. You can't always have what you want - no matter who you are.

On the other hand - why not allow everyone who participated last year to run in this year's race? I would have thought those people would have priority.

      Statistics - Boston Athletic Association - BAA.org

Running with fake bibs isn't new, either. It's never been a big deal. So maybe being well known and rich played against this couple?

Outside of th woman that had her numbr misappropriated, I don't see how there was any real problem. Things gt crowded, and I don't think anyone running thinks it will b {excuse the expression} a walk in the park.

Though I don't see why this couple felt they HAD to run together, They should be able to.

As for the bombers, I could see how people could feel that way, but there is NO way to stop ths sort of thing. SORRY! I could give an EXCELLENT example about how a COUNTRY once had a ban, and some there worked around it and violated it to the millionth degree(10th degree would be understating it a LOT). But yeah. Besides, criminals DO NOT FOLLOW THE LAW! Doing what those bombers did has been effectively BANNED world wide for millenia. What is ANOTHER antiforgery law going to do?

I think the righteous indignation is media driven and the pols are willing to participate.

This isn't new - it's happened every year and has been accepted for years as something that "happens".

What is new is spotting a "wealthy" person doing it - so now it's media fodder. If the race monitors want to stop this practice - they can issue bar code bracelets to the runners and scan at start and finish. The idea that a number label for each of 35000+ runners is some sort of "security" is nuts.

The arguments have gotten dumber on this with a race official saying "these people waste our resources". What....bottled water?

That bracelet idea is actually kind of good. They could hide secret info, so a crook trying to use it would be caught. It ALSO, would mean that it could b harder to cheat, and that woman that started this garbage couldn't complain.

As for resources? They should ALWAYS have extra water on hand, etc.... They could have her pay for it later.

a crook trying to use it
Have to laugh at the idea of a "crook" falsifying info in order to be able to RUN 26 miles! That would be a high energy crook

The way some lawyers and crooks think.... Maybe they could take a car part of the way, and have pictures crossing at the start and the finish to say they couldn't do something, or blnd in, and use the band to fit in.

It's because he's a CEO and people have gotten sick of elitist entitlement and lack of morals.

I don't follow the marathon so don't know, considering the massive amounts of people in it, if it would even be an issue other than in the likely event they came in first.

It's really time that CEO's adopt some impeccable morals, though. They've been so corrupted, so greedy, and so selfishly destructive that people are sick to death of them. It's not hard to gather an angry mob against an "elitist" who is misbehaving.

The marathon goes right past my front door. I watch it from my porch each year as you can not get in or out of town. With all the security instituted this year in response to last years tragedy it does not get any dumber than this.
