Can YOU figure this one? The South Korea PM has tendered is resignation for not handling the Ferry incident better.

It sounds to me like all outside of the ferry handled this as best they could. Most of the CREW should have the book thrown at them for not communicating with the passengers, not assisting them, abandoning them, and even LYING to them! It sounds like they WILL! The same should have been done with many aboard the titanic.

But what could the PM have done, other than inform, and try to help save the people?

Let's face it. After the ship sank like 50%, a lot of those people were as good as dead if they couldn't escape themselves. In a way, this was worse than the titanic. It capsized to one side disorienting people, moving the air pockets far away from the passengers, and making navigation harder.

What SHOULD have happened was that after the first sign of trouble, the captain should have had the crew help move people to upper decks to get them closer to safety if things weren't fixed. Like the WTC, though, people were LIED to and some that WOULD have been safe ended up dying.

It's the mindset there, Steve. Those in power take responsibility for things that happen.

It seems extreme to us because over the years we have become accustomed to those who take responsibility for nothing.

After a tragedy, it's always clear what should have happened. It's the problem with accidents, especially avoidable ones - you don't get a do-over.

HEY, I am ALL for having people take responsibility. I wish they would in the US. But this is almost like the CEO of a company quitting because one worker damaged one laptop that was to be sold. It isn't the CEOs responsibility, it is the workers and perhaps those that teach and manage that worker.

        I totally disagree.

This was not a single error by crew but a total failure of operation and emergency protocols.

After the wreck - there was a lack of full response by the govt that was loudly criticized. That is what this man is taking the fall for. He was the govt "face" of the tragedy as he spoke directly to families of the missing people.

I agreed with all of that, except the government. Oh well. I said earlier the WHOLE crew was at fault. I would have done things VERY differently, and I bet more would have been saved.

Most people - especially most ship captains would have done things differently. When the gov response is bad, though - that is the part the gov has to answer for. Think of the heads that would have rolled in Katrina, Sandy, or during the oil spill if our gov reps were held responsible for their reactions to these emergencies. We might actually still have a gov instead of a corporation.
