Sadly, I am not danish, or there. But the idea of so many diapers, and a nice holiday would sound nice if I did! It would MORE than pay for the trip. The delivery would probably be free also.

It IS interesting! Basically, they are saying that Denmark has the same problem the US does. Their social security program is a PONZI scheme, and they don't have enough kids to pay for all the pensioners. So THIS is their answer. Of course, it is NOT sustainable! How will the KIDS be supported? Even if the births kept going up, eventually they would die of starvation, and the economy and ecology would self destruct.

For the economy and ecology to survive and be sustainable, the population needs to DROP. But to get the ponzi scheme to WORK, it has to go up. THAT is why PONZI schemes always fail.

Maybe I talk a bit too much about it because I learned it so relatively well and fast, and have a danish aunt. Her american husband is the one I am REALLY related to though. I had a german teacher that thought I was danish also! On a side note, did you know that the 2nd most widely spoken language in north dakota, and the 3rd most widely spoken language in most US states is GERMAN!?!?!? Who would have thought? Of course, about 6 or 8 states in the US have FRENCH as the third most common language. The 2nd most popular language in 47 states is, of course, Spanish.

Still, I really SHOULD study more.

But I didn't go looking for these Danish videos. American sites pointed me to them.

      And this one IS funny!

Well I guess that explains why the Vikings used to go overseas to rape and pillage.

Give me a break! The scandinavians are PROUD of being from the vikings. The danes, at least, show early writing, the ships, etc... But they don't pillage, etc... HECK, OTHERS are pillaging THEM!

And the world is STILL using stuff they created a LONG time ago. I mean like H,C,A, wrote a story almost 200 years ago called the snow queen. A company took it, tweaked it, and BANG, Disney's Frozen!

The idea is that you will keep and raise the child who will grow to be a productive member, and pay into the system to help pay for the elderly.

Well, if you go on welfare, you probably WILL get paid more. But governments have ALWAYS fallen because some group wants to take advantage. OH, there are LOTS of ways they can take advantage, but AGAIN, if you want to take advantage of something, it shouldn't be to the detriment of the country.

I was wondering, but it IS an advertisement for a travel agency though

    Do it for Denmark!

Also, it seems one person wins. Prize value is around $9,162.51 USD

My point is the same though.

Yeah, that's a pretty good marketing idea by the travel agency. It's not done by the government to make sure the social security program is solvent. That's just part of the tongue in cheek humor of the commercial. By the way, neither system is a ponzi scheme of course.

Well tim, the US has ADMITTED it is a ponzi scheme. Of course they would NEVER say PONZI! They use terms like Surplus(A non ponzi would NEVER have a surplus), Deficit(DITTO), insolvent(If you have the money, it is NOT insolvent), talk of the younger providing support, saying it is NOT a trust fund(It is CALLED a trust fund, but they want to treat it like THEIR money donated to beneficiaries), etc....

YEP, PONZI SCHEME! The danes, like us, have ALL workers put money into a fund SET ASIDE for this! The danes, like us, pay it out to many. The danes, like us, probably pay even people that never pay a PENNY in their lives. But I can tell you that the danes, UNLIKE the US apparently, DON'T pay back money to just anyone, EVEN if they are a legal worker that has paid into the system for decades.

Still, I wonder. Ponzi is not simply some word that someone can say IT ISN'T, and the problem is GONE. It refers to a non sustainable system that works ONLY as long as enough new money comes in that the system can hide the fact that they have squandered money that they have squandered.

BTW MOST ponzi schemes have people that scream it is not ponzi even long after the time it is closed down for being a ponzi.

NOPE, NOT A PONZI SCHEME! Some similarities, but also some huge differences.

I believe the Danish system is now a VAT, not a payroll deduction.

I thought there was only ONE VAT. Anyway, after 2000, as I recall, it was still a payroll deduction.

BESIDES, a vat may not be enough. Figure it cout, they would have to buy well over 5 times the taxable stuff prior to the retirement as they would likely pay for ALL stuff AFTER retirement. If retirement were 10% of the expenses of the state, they would have to buy over 50 times as much. Of course you COULD depend on those coming later, but THEN we are talking PONZI again!!!!
