Listening to some friends who tend bar, people really do need to be told that stuff.

I get incredible service everywhere I go more than once. It's soooo easy. Tip well, be polite, and be patient. I say "Thank you, sir" every time someone gets me a drink. The guys appreciate it and the women all reply, "You're welcome, ma'am."

If you're the kind of person who makes people want to hang around longer, that's bonus points. And if you get even the angry regulars to laugh and joke around, that's Big Karma.

None of this is rocket science. If you like people, it should be second nature. If you don't like people, you should probably take a cue from George Thorogood...

...and if you organize a softball team for the bar, as I did, and get most of them to go to the bar after your games, as I did, you get a lot of free drinks, as I did.

Dave loved me down at Papa Joe's!

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.
