    Geodes are rocks that usually semi spherical in shape with an interior that is hollow and lined with crystals. Thurndereggs are much the same but the cavity is filled with agate or jasper.

    Here's one that I broke open (should have sliced it, but oh well):

    Probably don't know the author. I've known a few people who produced rock and gem hunting guides but not trail guides. If I do, it would be incidental and not related to the guide books.
