I tried disc golf for the first time recently, quite fun. Anyone recommend a good frisbee?

I tried disco golf once but I got tired of carrying around that big, mirrored ball.

Oh wait, did you mean disc golf?

I used to live across from a park where there was a disc golf course. Most days there would be anywhere from 2-5 wayward Frisbees land in my yard. I used to sit on the porch with my German shepherd and when someone would come toward my house to get their Frisbee I'd tell them, "If step one foot on my yard I'll turn the dog loose."

Nobody dared. At the end of the summer I'd have a Frisbee sale. I'd make $500-$600 every time.

Not really. I made that up. Had ya going though, didn't I? :p

I like to use a Wham-o Frisbee usually either 145 grams or 165 grams when playing for fun but people that play Disc Golf for real use different brands and tons of different discs--> they use different drivers, putters, and mid-rang discs from 90-180 grams. The discs also have different edges, different mass concentrations, different stability ratings etc. etc.

Take a look here for a decent overview:

      Thx!

      I have order this package, http://. discsport.se/art/1067

The one I have now is a 175g Ultimate disc. Can't throw that so long arround 50m.
But in the second round I manage to go 2 x par, that was extremly lucky. But both pair was on the two shortest holes.

Wham-o is the king of the Frisbees...Have you seen Foot golf?
Many golf courses that have had a decrease in people playing traditional golf are now letting people play Foot golf, where they put out very large holes on the course and you kick a ball about the size of a soccer ball up and down the course with the goal of kicking the ball into the hole. Each kick is a stroke. As goofy as it looked on the news, it looked fun.

I saw that on the NBC Evening News, last night. Not being a fan of either golf or soccer, I have no idea what to make of it.

Of course there's already a National Foot Golf League. Only in America. lol

Been playing disc golf for 23 years now. Wonderful, wonderful sport.

Guys, whamo is NOT a good disc for Disc Golf. Also Ultimate Frisbee is NOT for Disc Golf.

I use Innova. Which in my experience is the best of the best for Disc Golf.

        All the Pros use it.

And btw, yes there is a Professional League ( PDGA) where real guys make a real living playing Disc Golf year around.

The top ones make about 60 to 70K a year. Yeah, these guys are unreal. I mean unreal how they can make these Discs do what they do. I have been playing for decades and still am speechless when I see the skills these Pros have in throwing a Disc so accurate

Ken Climo is the Tiger Woods of Disc Golf since 1989.

Look him up he is all over the Internet. He is a true legend
He is referred to as 'The Champ' in the Disc Golf community

That was a good one. Yes Ultimate disc is hard to use, but when my new disc arrives, my score will be improved I guess.

Yeah, it definitely will. But it will take time. Standard Golf Discs are so much different than throwing an Ultimate Disc. The weight, flight everything.

Nice Eagle by Climo but not a difficult shot by him as he has had many Aces in narrow Wooded fairways that are much more impressive.

            But cool nonetheless.

Here is an Ace by Nikko Locastro. Currently, No.3 in the World. Not a real tough Hole but a cool ace to watch.

I'd never even heard of this until I saw this thread but I have to admit it looks great fun to play and great fun to watch.

Fair play to America though, golf is an expensive sport, this opens the playing field for a lot of people I'd have thought.

Mind you, how much are those frisbees?

Ido not play myself but I have some friends who are really into it. I live right near a State Park that has a excellent disc golf course, considered one of the best in my region. I was in their visitor center once and I saw that the park rangers had lots of lost disc that they found.
I can certainly see the appeal of the sport. It looks like fun and it is challenging.

Yeah, Dwaters. I think if you gave it a shot and played a few rounds you would be hooked

It does take time to learn technique. The good thing is that 95% of all disc golf courses are FREE across the Country.

And it is a great exercise.

I thow a lot longer with these new disc, my total was the same that I had with my ultimate disc, but I was so unlucky on one hole. These new disc are very sensitive then they hit smal nodes and bushes. And this basket are at the top of the hill and the disc was back to the bottom, the ultimate disc 3 (pair), with my new disc 6 (+3), my worst result ever. But I like my new ranger the most a -1. Think I need some automatic disc cleaner in my bag, slippery when its raining like it did today.

It was a better round today, 33 in total and 5 pair, I like my new discs. But I have to learn to play more safe.

I expect you are right. I would be hooked on it! But when will I find the time? Between fishing, hiking, biking, running, working out at the gym, reading, working in my vegtable garden plus other yard work - I do not have much free time left. Heck - maybe I will just make a ton of money from internet marketing and retire! Then I will take up disc golf as well as regular golf!

Its pretty addicting, but there are some really good courses out there and some really bad ones. A local one for me in the States always put the baskets in front of a cliff, drop off, creek, or a huge thorn bush, so if you play an aggressive game then you are going to lose a disc or two a game, guaranteed. I really like the Disc Craft Z XS, and I side arm 99% of my throws.

The most clear-cut tool I have found is this consolidated list if discs used by formers world champions: Discs Used by the Pros . It is amazing how similar their mid-range and putter selections are.
