Is it Me, Or the Post Counts

Greetings. It seems to me that before things started to change around here I had a post count well over 100. I could be wrong.

I have made a couple of dozen post in one thread, I'd guess, but now my post count has been stuck at 94 for a couple of weeks, it seems. Then, yesterday I posted in another thread in another section and it went to 95. Came back to the previous thread, made a few new post and now I'm stuck at 95.

So. Does the post count go up with each new post, period or only for the first post in a thread?

Are these numbers plausible?

Thanks: 99
Thanked 361 Times in 198 Post

If Mr. Myers or someone equally as knowledgeable as to how the forum operates would give this question a whack, I'd be most appreciative.

Cheers,

Frank

Hi. Sorry, I'm not Mr. Myers!

But one thing that could be altering your post count is where you've posted it.

Due to spammers in the past trying to boost post count by posting in the Off-Topic section, that section was turned into a place where the posts there do not up your count. The reason the spammers and scammers did this was to get around a restriction that was once in place where you were required to have a certain minimum number of posts in order to put out a WSO. This was way back before the WAR Room membership - or at least the requirement to be a WAR Room Member in order to put out a WSO - if I'm not mistaken.

Because it worked well in keeping the spam to a manageable level, eventually this policy found its way to other parts of the forum as well.

And it looks like there has been a lot of movement and relocation of some posts/threads since the new owners have taken the helm and divided up some of the topics into smaller segments. So it's possible that posts that previously counted have now been relocated to places where they no longer increase your post count.

Plus, it's possible that those making the changes have not yet noticed the fact that some sections have the post count increase feature turned on while others have it turned off. Perhaps they just duplicated all the settings from another section of the board without realizing that some places the posts count and other places they don't increase your count. Or maybe it's their intention for some places to count and others not, who knows?

At any rate, here's hoping this post will help you whether it increases my count or not, LOL.

That does make perfect sense, both as a 'feature' and an explanation.

I wish that there were a greater number of threads more relevant to my business interest, but they are few and far between.

      Feature creep.

OK. At least I know that I wasn't seeing things that were not actually happening.

      Right. Got it.

It did help and I hope it increase both our counts, although I think you are 100% correct about the Off-Topic section being a 'dead zone.' lol

      TYVM.

My guess is that you've had many posts "thanked" which aren't included in your post-count because posts made here in the Off Topic folder don't count toward that total.

(The same is true of posts in the WSO folder, by the way).

So it's the counting-system that "doesn't quite make sense", not anything specific to your posts.
      Got it. Much appreciated.

If your count has gone down, then perhaps some threads in which you participated were deleted.

As for not going up, as ahlexis states - some forums including this one do not count posts. I've been here 12 plus years and I have a lot more than my 1600 or so post count indicates. I just stopped posting in the main forum a few years back.

Edit - seems you responded right before I posted

Of that you can be assured. Sad to say that my idiocy was completely to blame for a few of those. I guess I got my just desserts on those. lol

It's not a big deal, but every now and then people want you to have 100+ post before they consider you a life form worth dealing with. TYVM.

Not to worry, as you can prove that you have over 100+ posts. If they were paying attention, it clearly says ". . . in 201 posts" at the "thanked" section underneath your "only 95" posts listed

So you should be fine . . . as long as the person you're dealing with is awake, that is.

** And one last thing: I don't think the WSO forum adds to your post count either, IIRC. **
