Some big companies, which have branches abroad worldwide send their employers to different branches for some weeks or even months, to do the 'same' job as they are doing in this current branch.

Why would they do this? what reasons?
(I am mainly asking for going abroad to do the 'same' job as you are doing in this local branch...

is one reason, to get them to work in a different environment?

have you worked abroad, (being sent abroad by your employer to an abroad branch?) howcome you got sent there ?

Some employees simply request to work abroad for the experience of living abroad. Having an employer who allows this is basically an employee benefit as they may not have had the chance otherwise.

It's also a benefit for multinational companies to have employees with international business experience.

    It's a win/win for everyone involved.

  • Sometimes it's to work with a client company that has offices of its own in the home country and overseas.

It can also be to help train a new group of hires, or maybe to help set up a completely new presence in the country.

It may be a requirement of the government.

It may be a requirement of a contract.

There may be tax benefits to the company for such a program.

There is a huge tax benefit to the individual if they stay long enough.

The foreign earned income exclusion rises to $99,200 for tax year 2014, up from $97,600, for 2013.
In 2014, Various Tax Benefits Increase Due to Inflation Adjustments

      Example:
You are a U.S. citizen, a bona fide resident of Country A, and working as a mining engineer. Your salary is $76,800 per year. You also receive a $6,000 cost of living allowance, and a $6,000 education allowance. Your employment contract did not indicate that you were entitled to these allowances only while outside the United States.

Your total income is $88,800. You work a 5-day week, Monday through Friday. After subtracting your vacation, you have a total of 240 workdays in the year. You worked in the United States during the year for 6 weeks (30 workdays). The following shows how to figure the part for work done in the United States during the year. Number of days worked in the United States during the year (30) ÷ Number of days of work during the year for which payment was made (240) Ã-- Total income ($88,800) = $11,100.
Your U.S. source earned income is $11,100.
You made $88,100. You would pay income taxes on $11,100.

I used to run telemarketing call centres. We had several options to work interstate and also overseas. I did NOT want the overseas option but agreed to the interstate option. The reason for that need was because they had to fire the current manager for being useless and I was a temporary fill-in for 3 months.
However, after only one day, I was told it would only be 3 weeks as another manager had agreed to move there and run that division.

It was interesting as I had never done that before. I had also never been to that state and city so I got a small chance to explore, only on Sundays as we were open Mon-Sat and I was there 9am-9pm...except for Sat when I finished around 3-4pm.
