Well, it's time for me to get a bike. I gave my old one to one of my sons about 2 years ago and I feel the call again. I have it narrowed to 3. I like them all, so I thought I'd get some opinions...

The first one - 2009 Softail Fatboy with about 23,000 miles on it.

The second one - 2009 Softail Heritage Classic with about 7500 miles on it.

The third one - 2003 Softail Heritage Classic with about 9000 miles on it.

I am leaning towards one slightly. The styles are similar, colors quite different. Opinions would be great.

Thanks!

    Tough one.
If all other things are equal I think it boils down to comfort.
Number two looks like it would be the most comfortable of the three for you and your wife. I like the color scheme of the second also.
Nice choices all the way around though.

    Mike,

I'm of the opinion that people/drivers don't see a black or darker color bike as well as a lighter colored one. Probably sounds dumb and I have no scientific studies to back it up. Just decades of driving and what I've witnessed.

It's been years since I climbed on one of those things. If I was to do it today, I'd want every advantage I could get, given the quantity of elderly and texting drivers.

I'd personally go with the 3rd one. Not a fan of the colors of the 1st and 2nd one, not the biggest fan of blue.

Black on a bike is mighty sexy though

I can see why it's tough to choose. Since we can't ride them, it comes down to looks, at least for me. I'm not a fan of teal, so #2 is out. I guess I'd go for #1 because I like the blue and because black really shows the dirt.

Color wise, I like black. On the other hand, not too hard to paint, or have painted, how you like.

So, I'd go for the one that's the one that won't cause you to say "Damn, I wish I would have
bought that one with the _______ and the ______ and the lower miles and the better maintenance..."

(I just bought a car, a brand I did not expect to buy. Now that I've learned more and seen
some with more options for just a little more, I have that regret. Probably going to sell
    soon and trade up.)

We can't help you by test driving, so take each one for another test drive and see where you feel the most comfortable and safe. Unless you are planning on long journeys, give more weight to safety issues.

Not fond of the color of the '09 Heritage, but would take that over the '03 simply because of the 96/6-speed instead of 88/5-speed. Have heard people say the extra gear makes a huge difference in long-range comfort and mileage as it brings down the cruise RPMs quite a bit.

Good point. With those smaller motors you need that extra gear.
A friend in Fl had a 96/6. After a ride down I-75 he commented on how nice it was to have that 6th gear to cruise in. I didn't have the heart to tell him I was cruisin in 4th on my 102/5 Road Star

EDIT: Forgot to add we where only doing 65mph on the interstate.

BTW, if you're even thinking about a new one, the '14 Heritage is awesome I did an extended test drive last weekend and the new 103in motor and chain drive are sweet.

    Too bad it's $20K+

Well, that's exactly what I did:

Took it for a test ride, and got them to just under 18k. Should have it next week.

      P.S. I am a happy camper.

Thom - one day we'll need to meet up.

        Works for me Mike.
Except for Hunter Mt. and Woodstock, I don't ride enough down in that area.

        Nice ride you got there.

Hunter Mountain is only 1.5 to 2 hours. Woodstock is closer. Used to ride both of those places often.

Can't wait to get it. My test ride today was my first ride in about 3 years.

I think I'm about 2 Stewarts from Woodstock
            3 years isn't bad.
When I got mine I hadn't been on a bike in around 28 years.
Didn't get a test ride, bought it sight unseen on a Saturday and picked it up for my first ride on Monday.
I had been on a bike the previous year when I rode a friends 1980 H.D. around my house on the lawn (and some pine needles) to load it in his truck. That was when I knew it was time again

My last bike was a 1995 Suzuki Intruder 1400 that I bought in 1999. Well, technically my (then girlfriend, now wife) got the financing since back then my credit score was like 530

It was a great bike. Lots of good rides up until about 2010. I just got too busy and all my riding buddies lost their bikes or moved away. In 2012 I gave it to my sons.

If all goes well I should have it Monday. Then I'll take a few days off

The smilies look like they where drawn by a 4 year old that used their foot to hold the crayon.

What I find kind of amusing is when I rode back in the early 70's I had what was then, a big motor. It was an 80cu. in. Indian with a 3 speed, lol. Most all the big v-twins where 74 cu. in., but some would punch them out to around 90 cu. in.
