How can I tell my relative to protect himself from identity theft?

Some of my affiliate accounts are with my relative's name in Canada. I have several sites on his name. Recently he told me that he received a bill of 1000 dollars which he reported to the police and sent it back.

I was shocked when he told me that but he related the issue with his lost ID cards some months ago. I know his details are in who.is, I protect some of them but some who is guard protection has expired ad his details are visible.

1. I do not have his SSN and is it possible for the hackers to lend money on his name?

2. What should I tell him to protect himself from such things?

Am really not comfortable if anything bad happens to him. I'd rather quit whatever I am doing on his name if there is grave danger. Warriors pls your advice.

No suggestions - you are using your relative to avoid using your own name or because you can't use your name or location.

If you want to protect your relative - remove yourself from the equation and don't try to run your business through his accounts.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

Kay does bring up a good point. Also if you use his address on any affiliate accounts, it will ebe IMPOSSIBLE for it to EVER be anonymous. Your ONLY hope is to try to mitigate it, by REMOVING it everywhere.

To answer your question, socsec is NOT needed to destroy credit, but they can get it.

My account here was recently broken into. Although I DID cinsider it low difficulty, guessing wouldn't,be that easy. It was likely a logger, or an affiliate account. This password is now maybe an 8 in difficulty, and near impossible to crack through algorithms or guessing, so we may see. The last one was maybe a 6. Difficult to crack unless you tried a conceivable, but unlikely to be guessed, pattern. I would rank many passwords like a 1, and Dr falcons maybe a 3. Of course using the same info on affiliate accounts means a level10 password is a simple copy. Addresses are the same.

It is not a name problem rather a location problem. Ethiopia is excluded in Clickbank and Paypal acct is limited b/c bank accts can not be connected to it. I was using his name for more than 5 yrs. I also have a friend here in Ethiopia (also a long time member in WF) using his friends name for many years without any problem.

    * I am not doing this without his consent. He sends me Amazon earnings after cashing the checks. He knows everything I am doing.

Maybe I can avoid using his name b/c I have Payoneer card now but to divert all the sites to a hosting in my name will definitely take time. But sure I want to do that if it is safe.

** But guys, how do you keep yourself from identity theft anyways??

*** I can't even imagine how anyone will become accountable for the things he didn't do. Identity theft is Almost meaningless in our country.

How can you protect your relative from identity theft if your'e the identity thief?

I can't give a helpful suggestion. Just tell him you're sorry and get rid of all the websites under his name. The domain registrars I know allow changing domain details (this is basically designed for those who want to transfer their sites to others, i.e., website flippers or getting their websites sold)

Once you get rid or changed all the mess with his identity on, go on with business using your own identity. There's no reason to hide your online business if you're doing something legit. If you're not, it's time to take online presence seriously.

Thank you but it is not "hide your online business"case. It is just a matter of accessibility if you read my above posts. He is well aware of whatever I am doing. He is even sending me cash from Amazon.

Anyways I want to transfer all the sites to a hosting on my name. thx guys.

    ewledd,

You are like a person going to a mexican resort for a time, living high on the hog and bragging to a dear friend that mexico is GREAT, the food and drinks FANTASTIC! The friend then goes to tiajuana, mexic, has a drink, eats throws it up, and falls deathly ill.

SO WHAT if you think you have good luck. Are YOU going to pay your friend for all the damage you do?

BTW there is a REASON why places such as yours are blackballed, and this is a good example.

And watterotter is right. Your "friend" may have to account for all that money. In the US, that can be TWENTY YEARS of charges! Canada may be similar.

There are reasons for that, hello: the OP is breaching Amazon's terms of service, and probably several other regulations and laws, too.

It may be an english, or american saying, but there is an old saying......

YOU ARE LOCKING THE BARN DOOR AFTER THE COWS LEFT HOME! So your "friend" is now going to give you ALL their credit information and have their credit tied up so YOU can AGAIN steal their identity to harass them with the mess you will create? If I were "your friend", I would demand you stop, Not send you a penny, take over all the accounts you setup for me, and demand that ones I couldn't take over close the account. I would call the FBI and maybe they would help hunt you down. They DO do such things, I WOULD of course also take over the paypal account, and inform them what happened.

      You are basically laundering money,

There is no "stealing" here. He is my close relative who lived in our house for years without spending a penny even though he had a job prior to moving to Canada. Also I do not intend to ask him any of his credit information rather tell him to register for such services as Equifax and follow things. And remove everything on his name.

** One thing not clear for me though is you guys have websites right? then do you always pay for who is guard fee to protect your name and address? If yes what if your sites are in the hundreds (I know some affiliates having more than 500) ?

I understand what you are doing and why - and you are fortunate to have family willing to help. The way you are doing it he is almost like a partner - the money partner.

Best you can do is make certain he understand what risks there are and know what to do if there is a problem.

I do, yes. It gives you some protection.

I register all my domains at Namecheap, and get one year's privacy protection free with each.

I find that quite hard to imagine. I've been a full-time affiliate marketer for over 5 years, and am involved in 9 completely separate niches, promoting multiple products in each, and I don't have anything like that number of domains (and won't, ever). But anyway my short answer is that I get 1 year free, and after the first year it costs me only £1.72 to renew it for a year (about $2.88), when I renew the domain.

WHAT is more expensive? Stealing $100 or a person's identity? The person's identity! $100 is $100. A persons identity could cost them MILLIONS and time in jail. Want to see a good movie about how messed up your life can get? Watch the net! If you want to see something that actually happened, "american greed" has LOTS of good real stories. But what happened on the NET HAS happened and COULD happen. A woman has EVERYTHING stolen from her.

even though he had a job prior to moving to Canada. Also I do not intend to ask him any of his credit information
Well, you ALREADY know some of it.

rather tell him to register for such services as Equifax and follow things. And remove everything on his name.
          But that is little comfort.

I have often said the US government has a lot of idiots in it. If I decide to get things going again, I won't even use my own address. As for SSN, the last time I didn't need it. Next time, I will try to revive or get a new TIN.

It will be legal, but harder for another to use, and not tied to me.
