TV Sitcoms Not Funny Yet People Watch

Some TV sitcoms aren't really funny, but just cute. Perhaps people just want to look at attractive girls/guys or just like seeing happy people.

Yes, l have to admit that I Love Raymond, does have it's moments and his wife, eventhough short isn't bad on the eyes!

But after one season of it, l wouldn't watch it again, just too dumb!

These sorts of Sitcoms, are so predictable, you know what is going to happen next!

It is a bit like watching a horror movie, if the camera is on an attractive women, with a tight sweater and glasses, then it is a given that she will be attacked, and usually run away and break her ankle, so the blood sucking zombie can get close, (with accompanying music) and her boyfriend an save her!

Although most sitcoms, have a disfunctional family with at least one or more attractive women, (usually a revolving door of them) usually one seriously dumb one, or more, and one or two, reasonably start ones!

And of course one or more act like they are hyper!

Probably explains why l only watch reruns of MASH, and hardly turn the tv on anymore!

For starters, humor is a subjective thing. So to say some people watch sitcoms even though they're not funny is imposing your own opinion that the sitcom isn't funny on somebody else. Maybe they DO think it's funny.

Shows that "aren't funny" usually don't make it. I can list a ton of sitcoms that lasted one season or less. Michael J Fox's latest one was canceled as was Robin Williams'. Obviously, the masses in general didn't think they were funny.

Big Bang Theory is on for God knows how many years now. I think it's lost a little something over the years only because the concept isn't new anymore. And while I don't think it was ever rip roaring laugh your head off funny, it was always well written and Sheldon alone is worth tuning in for because he is such a great character.

But I could certainly see somebody saying that they don't like the show. Like I said, humor is subjective. Apparently, however, the masses seem to love the show.

I don't think Melissa McCarthy is funny at all, but the rest of the cast of Mike and Molly is a scream, especially Mike's mom and Vince. The episode where Vince got stuck in the tub had me in tears. He is so underused on that show it's a crime. And in my opinion, that's the problem with Mike and Molly. Too much Molly and not enough everybody else.

And yes, this is just my opinion and doesn't mean squat. The only thing that matter is what the masses think.

I am usually pretty good, however, at predicting a show's success or failure commercially, funny or not. What that means? I have no idea. I knew Michael J Fox was getting canned. The show was not the least bit funny and actually kind of sad. They tried to make light of a disease that there is nothing funny about. It just didn't work. Plus, the supporting cast was horrible.

The first time I saw Big Bang, I turned to my wife and said "Monster hit." It was so unique and Sheldon was so out there that there was no way this show couldn't make it. Had it not, I would have been shocked.

And with all that, funny is still in the eye of the beholder.

As far as Raymond went, the show was very funny, predictable or not and its longevity supports my claim. But again, all subjective.

Shows that surprised me that didn't become big hits?

      WKRP In Cincinnati.

Did you ever see the turkey episode? It is one of the classics of all time. Johnny, Les and Carlson were a scream. And Loni Anderson wasn't too bad to look at. The show had everything it needed to succeed. And yes, it was on for 4 seasons, but always struggled in the ratings and was moved around from night to night like a yo-yo.

To this day I still don't get it.

But again, all subjective. Obviously, the masses didn't agree with me.

So your direct statement that TV sitcoms are not funny is just your opinion. It is not fact. Ultimately, whether or not a sitcom is "funny" will be determined by the masses and whether or not they watch.

Obviously, in the case of Raymond, they didn't agree with you.

      And either do I.

Apparenty "Freinds" and "Two and a half men" are the most popular sit-coms!..it is in my country anyway..personally I just do not like them at all, the off putting thing about them is the laughing machine in the background that takes away any humour the show may have..

Laugh tracks have been a staple of sitcoms since day 1. So I guess you don't like any sitcoms.

That's true, my Mother watches reruns of Frasier, and eventhough the scripting is clever and it has a cute dog, there are other elements, that are annoying. The show was canned, well at least in Au,.

Other shows could have lasted indefinitely or as long as MASH, Space 1999 and Magnum, but they had production issues, namely some of the main characters got greedy or couldn't' work together anymore!

Hope we don't get that in Au, we have enough crap already!

I can see how others like it, we still get reruns of it here, but it does nothing for me!

Hmmm, maybe that is what we are doing, here, saying why do the masses keep watching this stuff?

Is it because there is nothing else on, or it has its moments?

Fair enough, my Mother probably wouldn't either!

But l just find it predictable, and annoying, to say the least!

Yep, that is one of the reasons l hate to watch MASH on tv, because it always has the laugh tracks in the background, well the 50 year old, dead person laugh tracks!

Least the DVD, ones, have a no laugh track option!

The other reason is, they cut a good 5 miniatures of the show for dumb add's! Eventhough the original show was less than 30 minutes!

But at least it doesn't have an endless supply of abnormally attractive women on the show, or other crap!

But l suppose, most women blow wave their hair before entering a bachelor pad on the beach!

I won't even mention friends, eventhough women love the show, and let's just say that show doesn't need women on an assembly line, since the ones they have are seriously attractive!

Least l can still see faults in the shows l like and still enjoy them overall!

PS l will end it there, since there seems to be an influx of trolls on a few online forums at present, so l don't want to flame a trolls passions, (for want of a better word).

When in the UK I loved Python, there were plenty of crap shows around just like there were and are here.

Best Imports from here was Taxi, Frazier, Cheers, Mash (with no canned laughter or ads, so much better)

John Cleese in the UK did just 12 genius episodes of his Fawlty Towers comedy! They tried to reproduce it over here and it did not work, just as they tried to do Till Death Us Do Part in the US with the Archie Bunker character. That was a dismal failure when they showed it in the UK, so tame!

Huge differences in tastes and what people think is funny!

          Fawlty Towers, the Germans!

If the show has a laugh track,

        chances are its not funny,

with the notable exception of Mr.Bean.

Well, they might do it, to kick people into thinking that it is funny, after all if dead people laugh tracks are being run, then it must be funny???

At least in Cheers, and Rosanne, they filmed it in front of a live studio audience.

Obviously a studio audience with people laughing like a trained parrot to LAUGH, sighs.

But l suppose it is better than dead people laughing?

I have found this when watching movies in a theature, the last one was X-Men, that l laughed at some of the stuff, and the audience was dead quiet?

I was thinking, snap out of it, this is funny! Stop acting like this is a funeral?

Although the Wolf of Wall Street, had most laughing most of the time.

I suppose Aussies have been through so much green, energy red tape crap, that they are getting too serious.

True, l used to watch Cheers religiously, well the token, attractive women helped!

But like most others the storyline got dumber and dumber, until l was through with it!

Australians didn't get the last episodes, with Diane, and Sam meeting up again after trying to get married and going their desperate ways, straight away. Well it took forever to see it!

And Diane being with her boyfriend that turns out to be fake and gay! Groan!

      Nail in the coffin!

You can always tell when these shows are on their last legs, as the storyline gets stupider and stupider!

I am glad that MASH didn't go that way, they seemed to get better over time!

PS l know that you hunt fluffy bunnies, but l won't hold that against you!

That's true. I guess it just needs to be entertaining to keep the people watching it or including artists that are good looking to attract more watchers.
