5 TV Networks Vs Cable or Satellite

There are many shows to watch in the USA now, but few keep our interest. Was it better when there were 5 TV networks? Was the quality better? Obviously, back in those days, getting a show on the 5 networks had to be very competitive, since that was the only exposure one could get.

Are you kidding? I've been on satellite the past 20 years and if you can't find programming to keep your interest then you may not have many interests. Seriously 300, 400, 500 channels which includes dozens of sports channels, dozens of premium movie channels, hundreds of niche channels, dozens of spiritual channels, a dozen kids channels, many, many science and nature channels, several news channels, countless reality shows, countless documentaries, massive amounts of series programming, countless old movies, countless educational programming, tons of food and health programming, many music networks, 100+ music channels, lots of concerts, countless PPV offerings etc. etc...

Not to mention that you can record 6 or more programs at once and watch them when it is convenient for you to watch....you can pause, slow mo, etc. etc.

If you pay the money for good TV these days you get good TV, but of course many/most still need the major networks along side the hundreds of channels depending on what you watch.

Yeah, I know, many people are using roku, netflix etc....but once you have had the 400-500 channel selection and the DVR capabilities on satellite it's very hard to go to something less.

    Cheers

Totally agree, Direct TV rools, had it for years. A few problems with the heavy rain on the old dish as regards reception but recently had an upgrade to HD with a new larger dish in a better position. No problems now in the fiercest thunderstorms!

Loads of channels, great picture, many HD. Cheaper than cable!

Yeah, except I've been a Dish Network man since 1996. In-fact I owned one of their first satellite dealerships in Northern, Illinois back then.

I used to have Dish, DirecTV and Primestar when I was a dealer. I gave the dealership up in 2002 but before I gave it up my company was doing DirecTV installs for more than a dozen Best Buy stores in the Chicagoland area.

Before I opened the satellite shop I managed 7 TV stores for the oldest chain in the business (at the time)...we had over 200 TVs running on display in each store way back in 1986. I am pretty sure we had the largest big screen selection of any company in the US at the time. Price range on 36 inch and up was 2 grand minimum...the 60 inchers sold for 4-5 grand back then. They finally closed all 100 or so stores several years ago and went full time into the green energy business.

I gave up the TV biz in 2002 for photography but my wife and I still watch a lot of satellite programming...I've got several TB of concerts and movies I have DVRd to DVR drives and external drives over the years...hard to live without the DVR these days.

        Cheers

Put.io and Roku combination rocks. Just about any TV show or movie you can think of at any time in HD for only $10 per month.
