Raju The Elephant Cries After Being Rescued Following 50 Years Of Abuse, Chains

When I read this article, I too cried for Raju! Poor Baby!

At least he's free now and has some flirting to do with some lady elephants.

    Oh wow. Who wouldn't cry.

This has to be a case for 'a special place in hell' for the one(s) who did this to Raju.

    God bless the rescuers!

Isn't india supposed to PROTECT elephants? I mean SERIOUSLY, elephants and whales were HUNTED for primarily tusks and teeth! BOTH were endangered! What happened to its "owner"?

I'm not sure, Steve, as the article didn't say but if Karma hears about this, they'll all be trampled to death by a stampede of wild elephants.

Steve - the article says he has been through 27 different exploits.

He was kidnapped from his mother as a baby and has been passed around all those times to one demon after the next.

Yes it is very strange since they won't even kill rats in India. The elephant is particularly revered there. While I would love to see the perps beat to death real slowly, I guess starvation and depravity cause 'people' to allow their demons to drive.

From what I have heard, elephants can even be tricked into relying on a rather fallacious belief, and be controlled by far less capable, and harmful, restraints. BESIDES, the idea of having spikes and all just makes it WORSE. ALSO it is likely not that hard to keep an elephant rather happy, and they CAN do a lot of work. So poor and starving, or not, there is no excuse.

Mans cruelty knows no bounds..I'm no racist by any means but Asia and Muslim countries are the biggest culprits that abuse the most beautiful creatures

I was watching a sickening you tube video of how some of these Muslim countries slaughter camels..sickening and appalling is mans inhumanity.

Years ago I was in a restaurant in an Asian country on holiday..I was watching a group of apparent business men joking and laughing round a table..the chef came out to take their order. then the most horrifying sight I had ever witnessed..

The chef returned with cage and a carving knife. in the cage was a monkey! the cage was made in such a way the body of the monkey was incased within the cage from the neck down..the chef then sliced the top of the monkeys head then walked away for these devils started eating the brains of the monkey while still conscious and alive..I couldn't bare the site so immediately walked out letting these creatures know what utter cowardly devils they were

      Ewww!

That not only is gross, but downright cannibalistic!

I know that would have made me vomit and I'd make sure that it ended up in one of the laps of those men who were joking and laughing!

I can't say it would make me vomit. I am odd there. If I eat something that I find odd in texture or perhaps taste, or imagine eating something that I would never want, I may easily regurgitate, but I generally don't vomit unless sick. But I DO have extreme disgust for this. If not for the fact that I have eaten so much meat, I would probably be a vegan. I swore off hassenpfeffer, one of my favorite dishes at german restaurants, because I once looked down when there was enough light, and saw the hare looking back! It WAS dead, but it still had the head on it.

I have a weak stomach in that regard. Whenever one of the kids was ill and vomited and I tried to clean it up, I threw up too and hubby had double cleanup duty, poor guy.

Sometimes smells will make me lose it too.

I found the most touching photo for me was the elephant lying down asleep after his rescue....with fresh grass held in his trunk. He finally had some real food and didn't want to let it go.

Everyone who knows me knows I push shelter adoptions and I also encourage people to adopt older animals when they go a shelter. Part of that is my belief that every animal "controlled" by humans deserves to have SOME love and kindness in their life even if for only a year or two at the end of life. I was touched to read a similar philosophy applied to the elephant rescues.

      What a wonderful story!

MAN! I wonder if anyone realizes that monkeys are so relatively close to apes that there are few things that distinguish them. And APES actually include a branch that eventually contains like 4 different groups of animals. One of them is called HUMANS!

As far as I'm concerned it should be legal and socially acceptable for people caught in acts of extreme abuse to be shot on sight.

I saw a pic earlier of two pit bulls that had been dragged behind a car at 40 miles per hour. Had I seen that - the perp would not have lived to get to court. I'm so sick of people not going after these people with the same vigilance we fight phony wars that I don't even accept myself being called part of the same species anymore.

They will try to skirt off on the "MONTY PYTHON vacation excuse"! "We were traveling, tied the leash to the car, and forgot." HEY, I don't even leave obstructions in some areas, near my bed, because I know I might get up, subconciously walk to the bathroom or something, and TRIP! If I don't trust MYSELF to do something that will likely be safe, why should I force an animal to trust something that may have a greater than 20% chance of hurting it. In short, I would want the dog hooked to some stable thing close and safe, if at all.

I really admire those that take up their time and energy to help and rescue Elephants and other animal in such an unselfish way..yeah I could see that Elephant was so happy being free.
Personally I so love Asia, but unfortunately their record for animal abuse is scanadouls..in Africa they employ ex Serviceman to go after poaches of wildlife, unfortunately only to bring them before the courts! and not given their just deserts..I won't what my preferable punishment should be.for these inhuman cretans.

Whatever, Steve. I'm talking about purposeful abuse -and it's becoming more prevalent all the time.

When you look at what some people do to their own species, I guess we should not be shocked - but those who are not built as sociopaths can't help but being shocked by cruelty.

I hope the punchline for them after we get off this planet is equally sociopathic. Until then, it's my hope some mercenary armies will form against cruelty and just cut abusers down wherever they find them.

Except in one instance, our families have always gotten dogs and one cat from a shelter. Animals are often there through no fault of their own, just that whoever had them can't care for them or just doesn't want them.

Dogs that are older are usually better behaved than starting out with a puppy. When you no longer have little kids in the house, it's so much easier to just get an older dog.

I saw that elephant rescue earlier today and wondered whatever took them so long? He really looked thin. How people can be so cruel to animals shows a lot about their character and I really wouldn't want to be around them.

Just because animals can't speak for themselves, doesn't mean they can't feel all the things we feel. We, as a people, should try to remember this and take care of animals because we never know what might be wrong with them and they can't even tell you.
