I have been beaten by virut virus.

This *6 $^%# damn &*%^% thing has been giving my system the pink screen of death for a week.

I also get serated lines on my screen, files filled with shit code etc.

I have scanned my computer about 30 times with all sorts of anti virus and malware programs.

I have formated, partitioned - reinstalled !!!

I have done a zero write.

It hid in the frucking RAM for gods sake and my machine is still fried.

The only thing it hasnt done is popped its head out of the screen and said "hey gareth fruck you".

I am nearly on the brink of installing LINUX

Realistically I will have too - all my backups are infected so it will just recorrupt my system.

I AM DEFEATED !!!

One thing I would suggest is that you get a linux live cd (something like ubuntu) and boot up from the cd. Then you can access to your files so you won't lose everything. While your backup/restore might have viruses your pictures, documents, mp3s etc. most likely are perfectly fine.

Three years ago, I had a an extremely nasty chinese trojan that infected all 6 of our office computers plus all out flash pens and USB external drives. We tried everything and decided that it was not stopable at that stage as it could not be identified by any anti-virus or spyware remover that he have tried. Luckily it was not able to cause problems with Vista and so my own computer was spared.

Many months later, we found that Kaspersky was able to detect it but was not able to get rid of it fully. Eventually NOD32 was able to do it. Besides the computers, we had to remove from all our external drives and USB flash pens. I would suggest that you make sure you have tried Kaspersky or NOD32 before doing anything drastic.

Yeah there will be a fix for this one day. But not now. I installed ubuntu today but its a total pain is the ass to install applications.

This has wasted a week of my time now and I am pretty pissed off.

I will try running VMware inside linux to use windows. But I am wondering if my video hardware is also infected now.

You need to run a bootable AV/rescue CD/USBkey/floppy like this
Kaspersky Rescue Disk – Bootable DOS AntiVirus Scanner Software | GeckoandFly Make Money Online made on an uninfected machine!

Other alternatives can be found on Google

If you use the synaptic package manager program, you just search for the name of the app what you want to install, check the box, and hit apply. That's is.

But if you are trying to 'switch' to linux, I would use it in a virtual machine for more than a few months until you get used to it.

I feel Ubuntu is NOT a pain to install applications. It is just 'different' than windows. Initially I just learned it now it is easy.
Of course maybe being more difficult to install stuff makes it more secure?
I have Ubuntu on two laptops and a desktop on separate drives I swap in when not feeling like using wyndoze

Well if you run into a specific problem send me a private message. I'm not THE expert on ubuntu or anything, but I have used it for quite awhile so I have some usable knowledge.

The only problem i have is setting up my internet connection.

Its a wireless modem and unfortunately the isp does not support linux

I did just find an ubuntu support guy in auckland but i dont know what he will charge me yet.

The isp is called woosh Woosh Wireless - Waikato Linux Users Group

I dont know what the frig i am doing with this stuff - just need to use my connection.

Hey but on a positive note - there is no longer any sign of virut at all. I have to agree Ubuntu looks very user friendly once you have the hang of it. And vmware is not required as there is virtualbox and vine for free - woohaa !!!

Once this is set up right I'll be stoked.

Excellent! With a bit-O learnin you'll be NOT missing the usual win crashes.
Don;t Get Greedy now with all the free software available, it's addicting

Due to linux coders working on improving it out of love,I feel, makes them more creative.

Just think of the poor monkey slave (MS)boys coding the newest Wyn7, probably being threatened with castration or worse if it isn't better than Vista AND XP.
And $225 for an Pro update compared to Apple's $30!

MS better git R dun in October.Or many will jump to get Macified.
