Rockford Files - one of the greatest shows ever made. James Garner was a class act. I had not heard his name mentioned in many years.

There was one episode titled, 'Frank Falcone.' I always got a kick out of that.

    RIP.

Seemed like a real nice guy. I don't remember him playing a bad guy.

    May he rest in peace.

Grand Prix is one of my favorite films.

And how can you not like Rockford Files...

A solid working actor who will be missed.

I loved James Garner in everything!

And I was going to mention The Notebook as well because I made hubby watch it with me. He not only actually liked the movie, but he cried too, right along with me. Aww!

He does still race his dragster though, so he gets to keep his man card, lol. = )

I also liked him in The Ultimate Gift. Hubby liked it too. ; )

First, What a beautiful scene. My sincerest hope is to go out just like that.

Garner was amazing in Maverick. That image cemented how I always saw him. To me, he always looked like he was having a good time...always winking at the audience.

I have no idea what he was like in life, but on screen he was incredibly likable.

Geez Whatever...You keep posting RIPs of my favorites.

I loved both Maverick and Rockford Files and Garner may have been the most successful actor to cross-over into both movies and TV.

He was also the first movie/TV anti-hero and would admit onscreen that he was afraid and say things like "he wasn't going in there"...

I always wanted a little business card printing press because of him and the answering machine messages in the opening of Rockford Files were classic.

He was great in the "Notebook", Rockford Files, Maverick. I always got a laugh or least a smile in everything I watched him in.

Thank goodness we can still see him from time to time in reruns.

A really good looking man - even still in 'The Notebook' as an 'older' man.

When I recently saw pictures of him though I could see even good looking guys look less so 'elderly' -- so it makes you feel better that it happens even to the best of us.

He will live on in his reruns and hopefully will rest in peace in the meantime.

    RIP Jim Garner

Can anyone think of an actor that was as successful on both TV and in moves? Bruce Willis comes to mind, but he only had one TV show.

My favorite James Garner movie is probably the Great Escape. James Garner, Steve McQueen and one of the best theme songs of all time...

My favorite was, "The Americanization of Emily." It was his favorite, too.

One of his main qualities was an ability to do both comedy and drama, and be believable in both.

One of my favourite films of his is Barbarians At The Gate, the story of the RJR Nabisco takeover back in the 80's. It done in a tongue in cheek fashion, which Garner was perfectly suited to doing.

Thankfully someone has put it up on YouTube, so enjoy it.

Rockfish was the coolest. The answering machine at the beginning of the shows...

As a young man influenced by the show, I used to say "How are you?" in the
disarming, friendly way he did in Rockford files. Even on sales cold calls,
which some people say is not good form. It did not ever seem to hurt, at all.

Trivia: I recall reading in an interview some actor image thing he learned. It was that
if a guy trims his sideburns a certain length, he will get noticed when he walks into a room.
(Talking normal sideburns, not weird ones.)
