Actually, they were ALL free! Netscape never disappeared. They created a version, mozilla, AOL bought them, and firefox grew out of it.

Microsoft paid MILLIONS, if not BILLIONS, to be able to offer Explorer 100% WITHOUT COST!!!!!! REMEMBER? They were SUED, Because they put it on ALL windows systems, FOR FREE!!!!! WHY? Was it to make money on the FREE browser? ARE YOU KIDDING? Was it because they were KIND? NOPE!

MICROSOFT won the case by claiming that it was NEEDED for windows, and for various windows programs.

What is MY theory, backed up by TONS of evidence? They wanted to support a highly proprietary system, and facilitate proprietary software that they sell for a BUNDLE! FURTHER, it works best with M/S SQL Server, that they ALSO sell! People can program it using languages like VB that they ALSO sell.

They pulled this SAME netscape trick with Java, but Java forsaw such a thing, FORBID itin the license, and when M/S broke the agreement, Sun sued the pants off them. M/S then created C# to compete.

M/S has fought THAT battle for SO long and yet they still haven't really succeeded. BTW the winner in the client side scripting war that M/S started!?!?!?!? *****NETSCAPE****! M/S created VBscript. NETSCAPE created a little language known as Java Script(NO RELATION to java).

      From wikipedia:
Shortly before its acquisition by AOL, Netscape released the source code for its browser and created the Mozilla Organization to coordinate future development ...

REAL TRUE! For the record, the first one owes its existence to netscape! Here's the URL! https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/

I WONDER! WHERE do you think they got the idea to make it MOZILLA? Here's a hint:

    https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/about/history/

The Mozilla Project launched at Netscape on March 31, 1998, to offer choice to users and drive innovation on the Web.

This is so funny you just want to cry -

... and it brings to mind these tired but true old 'jokes' about MS - I just got it via email last week so it is still circulating.

    Windows vs Ford

For all of us who feel only the deepest love and affection for the way computers have enhanced our lives, read on:-

    At a recent computer expo.

(COMDEX),Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated,
"If Ford had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon."

In response to Bill's comments, Ford issued a press release stating:

If Ford had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics (and I just love this part):

1.. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash.........twice a day.

2... Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.

3.... Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this.

4..... Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.

5...... Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would run on only five percent of the roads.

6....... The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation" warning light.

7........ The airbag system would ask,"Are you sure?" before deploying.

8......... Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.

9.......... Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.

10.......... You'd have to press the "Start" button to turn the engine off.

PS - I'd like to add that when all else fails, you could call "customer service" in some foreign country and be instructed in some foreign language how to fix your car yourself!

Please share this with your friends who love - but sometimes hate - their computer!

The plan is for Facebook to begin offering full internet searches so you don't have to leave Facebook at all. That's an improvement?

I think after that Facebook will sell virtual tiny houses so you can live in Facebook land until you croak.

And if you pay ahead, you'll be able to have an online funeral which all your contacts will be invited to, and secure your virtual burial plot, complete with Perpetual Memorial Wall. For an additional fee, you'll be able to send special emails on predetermined dates (birthdays, etc) from beyond your virtual grave.
