What ever happen to the good days, when kids could play outside with worries?

When this song came out, gas was around $1/gallon and life was all so simple then.

Chris Rock told a funny story about meeting Sade during his SNL days. She was the musical guest and they were rehearsing this skit which involved him wearing a Robin costume. She was a crush of his, but was so embarrassed to be meeting her dressed up as Robin.

Sade should belong to the rock'n'roll hall of fame.
She is such a classic and quality artist.

Rock and roll hall of fame? Are you kidding me?

They had all of 2 number 1 songs and a handful of hits.

If they belong in the hall you might as well put every band in the hall whose had a half dozen or so hits and call it a day.

Sade in the hall? Please, be realistic at least a little.

I am being realistic, how many one hit wonders are and will be in the rock and roll hall of fame?

It case you missed it, music died years ago

Sade has made great music over the years. Talk to me when they induct Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga, then we can talk about who really belongs in the hall

There are no one hit wonders in the hall of fame. What are you smoking? Do you even know what you're talking about or are you just being funny now? I can't tell.

Relax dude, we are only talking about music, no need for the insults, it's not that serious. I don't even smoke, so stop with the insults. I say she is deserving, and you say she is not, no need to get all stupid about it

Now you're calling me stupid? Who's being insulting? The smoking remark is a saying. I guess you didn't get it.

Anybody can say anybody is deserving of anything. But on what previous facts as far as hall of fame inductees do you back this up with? There have never been any one hit wonders inducted into the hall of fame. Nobody with a body of work as sparse as hers has ever been inducted.

So on what do you base this on? Just because?

I can say that Napoleon XIV should go in the hall for "They're Coming To Take Me Away" but it has no validity based on hall criteria.

Whether you think she belongs or not, Sade will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER make it into the hall unless she suddenly starts recording music again for another 10 to 20 years and has a good 10 to 20 additional hit records.

              Then we can talk.

I vote for yes. Even though they had just a couple of hits, those were massive and high quality.

So then let's put all these groups in the rock and roll hall of fame.

      The Partridge Family
      The Osmond Brothers
      Tony Orlando & Dawn
      Don McLean
      Gilbert O' Sullivan

I'll stop there because I could go on forever.

Sade in the hall is an insult to the groups that had the longevity and impact on music who deserved to be in the hall.

Fortunately, I never have to worry about Sade being in the hall of fame because it is NEVER going to happen.

The voters have way more sense than that.

I like Sade, but she wouldn't even belong in a rock and roll porch of fame.

But then, I've always thought the selection criteria was somewhat arbitrary. If sales or popularity mattered, where are bands like Dire Straits, Deep Purple, Jethro Tull or even The Carpenters? And if it's about influence, how come there's no Kraftwerk, Beefheart, Gram Parsons, The Cure, The Smiths or Joy Division (among dozens of similar contenders)?

Not that any of this really matters. There's nothing stopping anyone setting up their own awards/recognition program. Might even come up with a less pompous-sounding name.

Frank, I never understood the hall of fame criteria either. But I do know this much. Whatever it is, Sade doesn't meet it.

"Criteria include the influence and significance of the artists' contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll."

Sade has a beautiful voice, but rock and roll? Nah.

Linda Ronstadt is being inducted this year. She isn't really what I consider rock and roll either.

              Donna Summer 2013? WTH?

        Steven,

HOLD ON! The The Partridge Family belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

David Cassidy could shred! He may not be Eddie Van Halen... But, he is good!

        Naaa..... Just kidding.

Sade.... doesn't belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame... Who would dare call her music Rock and Roll?

Would Sade even be confused with Kiss or Van Halen?

If they have an "Adult Contemporary Hall of Fame," she may belong there.... But, Cutting Crew... and Corey Hart would be inducted before her! :-)

        Greetings David,

I have forwarded all of my personal and business banking information to you. Please let me know if you require anything further.

Additionally, may I have your permission to send the same information on my mother so that we can have the funds deposited in 2 separate accounts?

        Please advise.

          ABBA's in the hall?
I didn't go over the whole list of inductees in the hall, but I do know Little Feat or any of it's members aren't in there
As a group and individuals they have better and more solid credentials then Sade ever thought of having.
The hall isn't (or shouldn't) be about how many "hits" a person or group has, but about the contributions they have made to rock and roll and music.

Steven I see that you are much more knowledgeable in this field so I will take your professional opinion. In my non professional opinion Smooth operator is still one of the top 50 songs for me.. Maybe since it has some sentimental value for me

Anyway, hall of fame or not, Sade was still great.

She had a very unique, identifiable voice and style. No question. I could pick her songs out of a crowd in 2 seconds. But the rock and roll hall of fame is reserved for the elite, the very best. In fact, there are a few groups that SHOULD be in the hall that for the life of me I can't figure out why they're not. Maybe somebody. Point is, that's how tough it is to get in. And Sade doesn't even come close.

Rock and Roll hof? That song is more like Jazz, let it go there.

It's not that I think she is a bad artist, but this is the rock and roll hall of fame, not pop music hall of fame.

    What's next? DIsco?

Hall criteria went out the window years ago. James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Al Green, and others have nothing to do with with Rock n Roll. Now they even have rappers in the rock hall.

I see people who say she does not belong there, and I can see why. I can also see why she should belong there. Twenty five years of making music is hard, and I don't mean have a great 5 years, then go on the road singing oldies from the next 20 years. Sade came out with her first hit in 84, then made other hit's in the 2000's. Not many singers or band can do that
