I still would be interested as to why this thread was removed?

Seems like the new owners are going rampant at the moment, the Cancer, Apple founder one is history as well!

I suppose that Freelancer has interests that are getting clobbered?

Looks that the WF, isn't a free voice site anymore?

I'm not willing to jump to any conclusions just yet. I am sure that there are issues at play that we are not aware of. I would just like an idea of what's going on.

I can appreciate that asking for legal advice on the Warrior Forum is not the best way to pose a question. Taking legal advice from this or any public forum is "less than smart."

However... out of those threads come ideas, situations and experiences that may be of benefit to those who have similar interest.

        Just my opinion.

        The question remains...

I reported the one about Steve Jobs - the idea of new members chiming in on an old thread where Ken Strong had posted. I requested the thread be locked - did not want it removed BECAUSE Ken posted in it.

Too many 3-5 yr old threads being bumped - often with spam links or nonsense comments.

I'm not convinced some of the new mods know what is and is not political/religious as they seem quick to lock/delete down here.

The Thailand thread was about circumventing the laws of a country so I'm not surprised that one is gone.

As for the Thailand thread - there's probably more to that - or to that poster - than we know.

          Kay,

I didn't pick that up at all. If anything, I got the feeling the OP was trying to find out what the real deal was and get input from others.

          Just my opinion.

          More than reasonable... and respectful.

Yep, I and many others agree with you on that.

          And that's okay too.

Ah, I see. I was also wondering. Yes, I suppose that does make sense, actually.

I happen to be one of the enthusiasts for reading threads/blogs/comments about "the mobile/location-flexible lifestyle of internet marketing"; it's my escapist side, I think, for all that I'm unfortunately stuck where I am, at the moment and for the immediately foreseeable future, for reasons entirely unconnected with my business.

          Agreed.

Meanwhile, there are people pasting in articles and text stolen from other people's websites, and it seems nobody wants to remove them. (That actually bothers me more, but I admit it's an issue to which I'm probably particularly sensitive, because I'm quite often a victim of it, myself, in various contexts).

I hear ya' ... I kind of understand that, though. Those are sometimes sort of "gray areas"? It isn't always easy to decide unambivalently whether something's primarily "religion" or "politics". A point which Paul made a little while ago (in different words) in another thread, and I do take his point. (For example, I didn't know whether to respond to Steve's recent thread about "Hamas" because you could say that's "politics", in a sense. In the event, I decided to take it more as "comment on international affairs", and I wanted to show support for what he was saying, so I decided to err on the side of posting anyway, telling myself that the moderators could always close the thread if they wanted to, and people would understand why?).

            Hi Alexa,

You must be referring to more than just than just snippets posted in a fair use context?

Hi Don ... oh yes, very much so! I'm talking about substantial chunks pasted in as a "complete forum post", i.e. clearly pretending that the person posting it has written it.

It's not just the legal situation I'm referring to. I think it's a policy in this forum that people aren't allowed to do that. At least, I hope it still is! That's about "trying to appear an expert" by taking credit for the content, i.e. it's fundamentally deceptive in intent, regardless of any "copyright question". Some of these people are even selling "coaching services" here on the strength of the information they "provide", only it isn't their "information" at all! That's clearly "not quite right", surely? It's all very well for people to say "Well, please let us know about these things - we can't do anything if you don't report it", but I do report it (sometimes repeatedly) and nobody takes any notice. I know I'm sometimes "Miss Demanding", but you can understand my being disappointed at that outcome?

There are members here the majority of whose posts are a mixture of stolen content, the "thanks for sharing" type of post and the few-word-one-liners which prove that they haven't even read the OP, let alone the whole thread, and I'm perfectly willing to stick my head above the parapets and say openly that I object to that, and that I request the forum please to do something about it.

I do report these posts. But I admit I'm getting disillusioned about doing so, because it doesn't always have any effect.

You could spend hours reporting the "copying" and spamming - but who wants to spend that much time doing it?

We've had long threads in the past about international issues and economic issues - and they used to last until someone decided to get personal/political. It was usually a deliberate attempt to shut down a thread.

That Thailand thread, though, was odd - talking about "friends" who had a system....it didn't ring true for me, at least.

        I know; I know.

I just think it's a shame the moderators are clearly unable to cope with what's going on, and as a result there's so much more stolen content here, and apparently more promotional posting going on than in the past. Rod Cortez is a star, but he can't be expected to do it all on his own, and is sometimes away, too.

I don't understand what happened with all the new moderators, who were being trained so many weeks ago. (One of them wrote to me - she was really nice.)

I know - it's not my business and it's not my forum. I just think this could so easily be fixed, and it disappoints me.

I'm sure the new mods are very nice and are trying hard to keep the place clean. They don't have the experience on this forum that it takes to recognize some "cheats" quickly and effecitvely.

It is what it is. I've noticed many of the copy/crappy threads started only get answers from equally clueless people - so to each his own.

I'm pretty much only in the OT now - I think quite a few of us are.

I know ... but this is a great loss to the forum. (Not as much of a loss as the people who've gone altogether, I know. Maybe I'm only whining, now, but I've never seen the daily post-volumes so low, at any point in the last 6 years. Things change, I know. I don't seek to "blame" the new owners for all this, of course: I think we all know it was getting a bit quieter before they became involved, anyway.)

That is typical in those expat communities. They go there thinking they are rich, end up finding out their money goes way faster than they thought it would.

They all act like big shots though, and love to hatch schemes and scam any wide eyed newb who shows up. If he has no money to get out of him, they'll set him up to take the fall somehow in whatever illegal business they have started.

You really have to watch yourself over there. It can be a great lifestyle, but choose your "friends" very wisely.

They will find a way to talk him into putting his name down on something for sure. They just rip eachother off. I only met one guy over there who wasn't like that, and he essentially doesn't hang out with any foreigners and lives far away from where they tend to be for this exact reason.

When I lived in Thailand, basically everyone I got to know was setting me up as a mark. None were successful, but even when I visited my buddy recently for 3 weeks I hardly talked to any other expats, but was pitched 5 times on various schemes.

That's the side you don't hear about much, but there is always an amazing offer coming your way as a job, or biz. I bet that job even if it was legit was just warming him up for the real thing they want him for.

If they know you are desperate to stay or a wide eyed newb with money you'll have many "friends" over there.

The Thailand thread OP said he was thinking of joining his friends in Thailand while the OPs IP was posted directly from Thailand.

IMO it's kind of odd that anyone would be attached to a thread that mentioned illegal activities that even the OP said can get a person thrown in jail.
