Windows Users - Boost your productivity by speeding up your user habits.
When I compare how rapid I am on a PC compaired to everybody else I know, the difference is quite drastic.
So here's a few of my little-known secrets to speed things up for you and make life a little easier and projects completed a little faster.
First of all - the basics [Though I'm certain *most* of you already know these]
Copy: (hold)[Ctrl] + (press)[C]
Cut: (hold)[Ctrl] + (press)[X]
Open: (hold)[Ctrl] + (press)[O]
Save: (hold)[Ctrl] + (press)[S]
Print: (hold)[Ctrl] + (press)[P]
Select All: (hold)[Ctrl] + (press)[A]
Everyone knows these basics right? And they help speed things up right? Well, now the fun part
Switch between windows: (hold)[Alt] + (press)[Tab]
*Note: you can continue to hold Alt and press Tab multiple times, it will bring up a small display menu showing you which window you are going to switch to.
Or if you want to just Minimize everything down to the start tray and view you desktop simply: (hold)[WINDOWS] + (press)[M]
*Note: [WINDOWS] is the button with the windows logo on it, found between [Ctrl] and [Alt] to the left of the [Space Bar].
If you are in your web browser and you want to switch between tabs lightning fast it's as easy as: (hold)[Ctrl] + (press)[Tab].
And to open a new tab you (hold)[Ctrl] + (press)[T]
These are my most common shortcuts that I personally use to not-waste-time about things when using a computer.
Practice each one and use them all the time, they will become 2nd nature to you and your workflow will benefit - you'll be spending less time dragging your mouse to different corners of the screen and clicking through multiple options on menus.
And it doesn't stop here - these are just my personal most used, which is a great base to get you started - but there are tonnes of shortcuts, many of which the majority don't know exist!
Oh and one more thing.... If you need to log-out in a split second for whatever reason: (hold)[WINDOWS] + (press)[L].
Have fun and work hard.
Peace.
P.S - I'm just reading though this before I post it, and it occured to me: maybe you guys have some shortcuts of your own that you'd like to share?
I've missed a lot of my list - maybe we can built a collection of the best shortcuts for IMer's to use and create a blooming useful thread from it for the other Warriors to benefit from? I'm well up for it.
LOL - Just realised I missed out the most elementry of all, bold, italic and underline which are [Ctrl] + [B] / [I] / [U] respectively. Let's see how many people tell me about missing them
