This is a great commercial imo for Always, which seems to have struck a chord. The video has had almost 50 million views on YT in 6 weeks. Great marketing also.

There was a joke going around the drum community about hitting like a girl. Those that got it understood that these where a couple of the girls.

Well, she wasn't fighting like a girl. In martial arts, or wrestling, to the best of my knowledge, they NEVER say OH, you're a girl, fight like THIS. The only reason people even brought up GIRL, is because there was a difference. If you see untrained girls and boys fight, they often do fight differently. AGAIN, I couldn't say WHY?

Still, Kotex brought this up because they figured this was agood lead in as a reason why girls have problems at puberty, and it was a demonstrable and real case of denigration in some way, even if it really wasn't meant in that way. Let me tell you a few things that many don't seem to realize:

        1. NOBODY has reached their potential.
        2. This means that ANYONE could be better than they are.
        3. It ALSO means that you can't even compare yourself to a monozygotic sibling in this way!

There are plenty of stories about people that started out fat and weak and ended up thin and strong. There were even females that started out looking kind of ugly and ended up looking beautiful, with NO surgery. And nobody really starts out good in sports, etc...

As for why girls feel so bad at puberty? You could say the same about boys. WHY would one feel bad being told that they are in some way showing their sex? What is next? Hey,I like seeing women with ponytails, longhair, dresses, etc... I hope they NEVER get rid of them because they are feminine. What's wrong with THAT? Face it, people are different, and in possibly every culture, males and females are considered different in several ways. And there ARE different standards.

HECK, I heard about one guy that was not that buff that supposedly had some big dreams. As I recall, some laughed at him. They figured he wasn't strong enough, and the accent was a detriment, etc... His name was Arnold Schwarzenegger. I wonder how the publicist reacted when a kid's attempt at building a computer "blew up". It wasn't actually because of what he did, but because he used substandard parts because they were free. His name was steve wozniak, and he was the one that designed the first computers for Apple, and co founded it!

And YEAH, there are people like Rhonda Rousey who was threatened in a movie theater and they called the police on HER, for battery! The cops got a good laugh at her statement about how she decked all the guys. They apparently called just to hear how it went down, and get a laugh. And HEY! A friend of rhondas started to tell the aggressors what rhonda was, and she told the person "DON'T tell them THAT!". She LIKED being underestimated!

It's kind of ironic in a way. Using the term "you ___ like a girl" is usually intended as an insult to a male, with the exception of joking around like I just did with Tim.

Ironically, this probably started as an insult ******TO MALES******! The idea was that many girls DID do things that way and if a boy, or man, didn't live up to what was expected, that statement would be used as an insult. To girls, it would just sound STUPID if they were very similar. It would become an insult to the person SAYING it, as opposed to any girls that it was said to.

Having said that, I like the commercial, even if it makes males sound stupid and egotistical. I am glad about SOME changes in the world, even if the players(in this case females) don't realize that *****THEY***** are changing too.

FUNNY, albeit CRASS considering("grow a pair"?).

But SERIOUSLY, it was an insult for MALES when I was a kid, and it predates THAT by several decades, AT LEAST.

Girls ARE different, and they did things differently. HECK, they still DO do many things differently.

That isn't to insult girls, or anything of the sort. Some of those differences, if girls were to not have them, would cause THEM to be insulted! And, as you know, boys wouldn't want to be found similar to girls in some ways. If boys and girls were 100% the same, they would be neither. The world would be very different.

And if girls are told they throw like girls, they can try throwing another way. Boys don't care. HECK, some girls have gotten onto boys teams, and the boys are OK with it. If you are a decent kicker, beat out the competition on the same terms, and having a girl wouldn't cause a problem in some other way, the boys would probably be HAPPY to have you on their team. And that is WITHOUT title 9! Title IX - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Frankly there would be a LOT less racism and sexism if some people didn't look so hard for it.

Heck, I saw a show on disney where a girl told her older brother that he screamed like a little girl. He was insulted! Yeah, many males would be. SHE ran into a spider web, screamed, and her older brother said NOW who is screaming like a little girl? HER response? "HMMMP! That's different! I AM a little girl!". Would ALL girls scream? NOPE! But I bet far more do than boys. But SHE took it like she should have. It was the truth, and not actually an insult.

What's funny about that OP video is once the director explained what was going on, everyone changed their tune to fit in with people around them which is the same thing they did when they were making fun of throwing/running like a girl.

OK, you have broken the unwritten rule.

You have insinuated that women may not be as strong as men.

But we have proof in our movies. Remember, all 120 pound women can beat an armed 250 pound trained male assassin. Every time.

And a frowning 90 pound woman is just as intimidating as a frowning Football player

And every person (male or female) can throw knives expertly.

And all you have to do to break a man's neck is that little head twisty thingy.

And those Tae Bo classes really teach effective self defense.

And the vast majority of women hit really really hard.

      ______________________

The reality is; Some women can hit hard. Some can throw a ball fast, and some can defend themselves in a fight. And a very few are incredibly strong.

      But not all.

To our Women members; I'm very good friends with the Strongest Grandmother In The World. This year she dead lifted, at about 126 pounds (If I remember correctly), four times the weight that I can dead lift now...and I weigh 270 pounds. But she is exceptional in the extreme. She's 66 or 67 years old.

No matter who you are.....she can beat you up.

Can a girl Chuck, like Norris. No, of course not.

Basic Quantum Physics, already has proved that girls are made of "Sugar and spice and all things nice" and boys are made of "Slugs and snails and puppy dog tails"

Claude, at last, hinted on this thread that Men, due to genetics, evolution, and natural selection etc, are predisposed to having a bigger frame and stronger bodies by default. There is no sexism or discrimination here, its just a fact.

Women (and of course all ladies reading this thread who are the exception to the rule) of course can get fit and build muscles and beat a lot of average men hands down at all sorts of physical activities, but, the strongest and fittest of women pitched against a male counterpart would ultimately lose.

The martial arts are a possible exception if the woman was an expert. If the guy knew none but was strong the woman would probably bring him down anyway as she knows how to fight, hit in the right places, avoid his blows etc.

They do not pitch men against women in Olympic, sports, tennis or anything else for a reason. It would not be fair. Men hold all the records for fastest, weightlifting, swimming speeds discus throwing and all the rest simply because taken to the extreme their bodies are predisposed to potentially to being stronger and with the fitness training and muscle building they do to compete they get that way.

It is the way that society is, that most women do not want to have big bulging muscles, Men like either lean women or voluptuous curvy women or somewhere in between, very few men like muscular women, women who do weights etc. Women pander to that. Women themselves don't generally want to look like Charles Atlas either, they don't want their boobs to shrivel up to nothing, they don't want to look, well, more like a man.

Men look their best when lean but with some muscle. Only competitive weightlifters and strongmen take that to the extreme and I think they look grotesque.

If I went out onto a baseball pitch in my condition having no experience or training compared to the pros on the field I'm sure they would say well you throw like a girl. If I was compared to a woman of similar age and fitness having my throw speed measured I would probably still throw a little faster than her simply because of the disposition of my larger frame.

While sounding discriminatory, insulting and sexist to some it it can be just be meaning that, women cant generally throw as hard and fast as men. Yeah sure, there are exceptions, but pitch the best thrower from either sex and the man would be most likely be faster. That video and view is just satire. Taking it to the extreme.

As for posting video's of women playing guitars, whats that about? No relevance.

Kelly Kulick becomes first woman to win PBA Tour title - ESPN

I don't think you are telling anyone anything they don't already know with your quantum physics post.

Yes, some girls do "throw like a girl" with an "inexperienced" and/or "awkward" throwing motion but other girls have perfect throwing motions. Pitching is not always about how fast you throw, it's also about changing speeds, pitch location and the break on your ball. I pitched for many years and almost everyone in the league threw harder than I did but I had no problem getting plenty of people out with location, location, location.

Did I say women can pitch in the majors? Nope. Can girls compete with boys in some sports on some levels. Yup. Did Billy Jean King whup Bobby Riggs....sure did.

As far as sports goes, yeah, there are probably a few where the playing field is more level. A woman could compete in archery as that is about accuracy, shooting as well. Perhaps even golf as long as she can hit hard enough, the rest is accuracy and judgement.

What I'm talking about is physical strength, speed, raw power.

As far as playing rock guitar or guitar period, Its just another of those things that many more men gravitate towards doing. Most axe hero's and acoustic, classical well known musicians who play tend to be men. Don't know why? But what I'm saying is why bother posting that aspect. If they are the same age and weight, there will still be a strength advantage for men. But a flexibility advantage for a woman. These are averages, and there are lots of exceptions.

It's that men are bigger. But I still cringe when I see slight women on TV beating up huge men. As I would if I saw a movie where a 120 pound man beat up a 250 pound man. It's just silly......unless the 120 pound man is an expert in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. .

So...it's still silly, but not impossible. There.

Well girls may have slimmer fingers, and are supposed to have better dexterity and a better ear. So one would almost EXPECT them on average to do better. Of course, that is like 80-90% HABIT, which either sex is obviously adept at. I have NEVER heard anyone say you play that instrument like a girl! I bet that if you look throughout history, you will find a large number of musicians were female! That is ESPECIALLY true of the non-drum type instruments. I say non-drum because females have had a fair amount of representation with other percussion instruments. And I bet the ones they tend to have the most representation on are STRING instruments.

HEY, NOBODY ever said females can't do ANYTHING. They ALSO never said females can't do anything better than males. Even the "you throw like a girl" reference doesn't necessarily mean girls are inferior. It only means that boys should NOT throw that way. I have seen a lot of female clothing that I really like, on females, but would HATE on males. It isn't inferior, just different. Dresses, teddys, bikinis, one piece bathing suites, pants with prints, florals, etc... A boy would be RIDICULED for wearing such things, but those same people might compliment a girl for wearing the SAME thing.

As for Mone? Well, she does throw oddly. She puts her whole body into it, and starts to seem to run as she throws. Is that even LEGAL? It seems to have a potential to be distracting. It is kind of hard to see if she is "throwing it like a girl", but she isn't doing it like most do. Since she is putting so much into it, and being distracting, I'm not surprised people have trouble hitting the ball.

Obviously you were never a pitcher and you are not very accurately describing her windup, motion or delivery. Do you even watch much baseball? I pitched for roughly 10 years and I can tell you for 13 years old her motion/delivery is fantastic. Listen to the ESPN announcer describer her motion...

The delivery is not distracting, she is not running when she throws, and of course it is legal. Her mechanics are fantastic for her age. You want to see funky motions/deliveries?

Mo’Ne's delivery is sweet, very sweet. Some would say "it's as cool as the other side of the pillow". In-fact it's a lot like Jonathan Papelbon's motion.

So what is your point? That they all start out the same? I wasn't talking about that. SHE looks like she is throwing just as she starts to fall down, and runs to recover. THEY look like they start before the turn and don't have the part where it looks like they are falling down. Not even in the slow motion shot.

ESPN did a Sports Science segment about her on SportsCenter last night. Her mechanics are freakishly good.

That said, I personally don't think she should be playing baseball. Now, if they didn't have little league softball I would feel differently.

YEAH! I have seen people told that they **** like a girl, at various places, in film, and tv. Probably DOZENS of times! NOT ONCE have I seen it demonstrated for the males! But ALL of those people seemed to get it down! I have seen girls do the various things in various places, as well as film and TV, and seen them do things that way.

I don't know WHY they did it that way. I have seen like girl baseball games where they could be male, do everything the same, and NOBODY would say they * like a girl. AGAIN, NOT an insult, just saying.
Of course, those on baseball teams DO want to be taken seriously, so they WILL get the best players they can.

BESIDES, as I implied earlier, if there were NO truth in it, females would NEVER be offended by it! They would be like that little girl that, when asked what "doing something like a girl" meant, she said "It means to do your BEST"!

This was NEVER meant for female consumption, or to insult females. It was for males to say "YOU DON'T FIT IN! DO BETTER!" Females have, for a long time, been allowed to get closer to the males in several ways. But it is very different for the males. If I went up to a woman, ugly or not, and said she looked like a man, I bet she would feel insulted. Well, it is much the same for males. The "You * like a girl" wasn't to insult females, but to encourage males to strive for something better.

GEE, what about "YOU DON'T HAVE THE BALLS...."? What about "GROW A PAIR"? What about "MAN UP"? What about "BE A MAN"? What about "WEAR THE PANTS"? ALL are to tell males to do better and be less feminine.

Here is to kicking like a girl. I covered Julie for a couple of years including the the year she became the first female to kick a successful field goal in men's professional football history. This girl has played several seasons of professional arena/indoor football, and prior to that she played many seasons of semi-pro ball. Yeah, she also kicked for her high school and college football teams.

Yeah, this is a big boy league...in-fact college football Hall of Famer Mongo McMichael coached a team and Super Bowl winning QB Jim McMahon was a team owner back when I covered the league.

She was/is far more accurate than many of the college kickers that came through the league, and obviously the boys and men did not have the leg she had in high school or college either, otherwise they would have taken her job.

And these girls stand out, because they are exceptional.

The single hardest puncher, pound for pound, I ever saw was a girl. She was about 20 years old, and looked like a 12 year old boy. She was fast, and left bruises on my arm when I blocked her punch. Maybe she weighed 100 pounds. In an advanced Kung Fu class of both men and women.....nobody wanted to fight her. The rest of the girls? With a decade or two of experience? Not so much.

      She was exceptional.

I don't see the debate here.

Women tend to be stronger than most children. Men tend to be stronger than most women. Gorillas tend to be stronger than men.

Men have strengths. Women have strengths. But they don't have to be the same. That's just an opinion.

And I find Riffle's suggestion that we should all dress the same, revolting.

added later; I think "Throw like a girl" and "Run like a girl" are just silly. I've said it to guys as a joke. But girls don't really "run like a girl"..or "Throw like a girl". If they practice, they tend to look pretty good, and are as athletic as males.

    WOW!

Mo'ne Davis just closed them out by striking out the side in the 6th! She ended up fanning 5 of the last 6 batters on her way to an 2 hit 8K shutout.

She has thrown back to back complete game shutouts while allowing only 5 hits and striking out 14 and she is the first female to get a win and to throw a shutout in LLWS history.

Talk about living up to the hype...she just did that and more! It was a real pleasure watching her pitch.
