Beware. The return of pink slime. Boo!

As quoted by CNN
The maker of the beef product dubbed "pink slime" by critics is reopening a plant that it shut in the face of bad publicity two years ago.

"Beef Products Inc. makes a product it calls "lean finely textured beef" using meat trimmings from other companies like Tyson (TSN). It shut down three of its four plants following reports about the product on ABC news in the spring of 2012.

Ya just know that if it's being made again there will be some fast food places that start using it again now that people think it's been stopped.

One more reason I eat only organic beef.

      Exactly.

As a matter of fact, we just picked up our cow from our friend who raises grazers. This way we know there are no hidden additives; no growth hormone, chemicals, antibiotics, and no waste by-products named "pink" slime to entice me, lol!

But seriously, we have all of our beef for another year and peace of mind.

Wow! Forgive me, I was raised in the City, but how much does a whole cow cost? And can I come stay with you guys?

We paid $1700 which included the butchering, processing and packaging. And that was with the personal friend discount. To the general public that would cost between $2300 and $2500.

We barbeque almost every weekend as the kids and the grandkids are over just about every weekend. We also give burger to their families too. Our house seems to be the hang out house for some reason, lol!

Do you think you could put me and Niche Man up? That sounds mouth watering.

In fairness, for a whole cow that seems a good price but I've never bought more than a steak so I'm not sure.

Having said that how long will it last and do you just eat that as meat or do you have a nice chicken etc as well (Not at the same time obviously, unless it's a barbecue I suppose).

That has really made me fancy a steak.

We got an awesome price as you can see. Our friend has a waiting list of people who want his beef but he always gives a few close friends a cow every year. Well, gives a top spot on the list.

We have a friend who raises pigs and we get pork too.

My niece raises chickens and we buy from her as well.

My brother is a bee keeper and we get our honey from him.

So that leaves just the turkey we eat at Thanksgiving and tuna fish left to purchase. We don't like other fish or sea food.

It really depends on how many cook outs we have with friends and family and how much we give to the kids.

There are some years we only buy a quarter cow from our friend as we don't need more than that and only a half pig from our other buddy. Actually, last year we didn't buy any cow at all as we just didn't need it.

As far as putting you and Niche Man up, I don't think hubby would like it, lol!

Wow Terra, how BIG is your freezer? Or, in the alternative, how many freezers do you have?

We have two freezers in the garage as well as the one in the garage fridge. We also have a freezer downstairs, a freezer on/in the fridge downstairs and the freezer on/in the fridge in the kitchen.
