Billy Mays of OxiClean fame was found dead this morning in his home...

So sad He had just got a major deal with Taco Bell to be their spokesman.

He was a passenger on the jet that landed in Tampa without a front tire and commented that he hit his head during the landing.

Marketing has lost a man that knew how to make a pitch better than anyone else.

He had a deal with Taco Bell?!

The deal with Taco Bell would've been nuts. RIP to one of the most well known Pitchmen of today. I'm curious to see who they'll bring up to fill the very big shoes he's leaving behind.

    So sad.

I wonder if this is related to the bump on the head he joked about during that flight on Saturday and resulted in a closed head injury (like Natasha Richardson had that resulted in her death after bumping her head several weeks ago.)

    Damn.

I suspect that's exactly what happened. His son is on twitter and my heart goes out to him and his family.

I had Pitchmen on earlier while I was browsing the internet and found out he was dead. It was kind of freaky in a weird surreal "I was just watching that guy's show" kind of way.

This breaks my heart! He was my son's idol! At 9 years old he had most of his recent commercials memorized .... He was even thinking about being a pitchman when he grew up. I dread him finding out. I hope it doesn't kill his dream! I dread him finding out

When I have a difficult time doing something, my son tells me I need some product that Billy had pitched. When I laugh, he says, "No! Really! You need it because ...," reciting a few lines from the commercial, word for word!

We have lost a great man!

The Pitchmen show was really pretty interesting, and I think was the reason. Strange circumstances.

Are you saying you think the show is the reason he died? Or the bump on the head?

Billy Mays passed away this week from an apparent Heart Attack.

For those of you who do not know who Billy Mays was he sold Billions.... that's right Billions of dollars worth of inexpensive products for his clients using his voice, face, personality, hands, and and incredible skill for the pitch.

One of my favorite things to watch on TV are Billy Mays commercials. Heck I even watch them on Youtube :-)

I got my start in business as a "pitch man" in offline advertising and sales both selling and training others how to sell.

The skills I developed pitching products on the streets and to individuals, groups, and businesses are the single most important foundation to the success of my online business.

They have been a huge factor in my ability to write copy that converts and to be able to give compelling presentations on the phone, over the web, and on the stage.

An acquaintance of mine once asked Dan Kennedy what he would advise someone who wanted to learn how to sell online. Mr. Kennedy answered that they should start by working in sales offline.

Billy Mays has a gift and died at the age of 50 at the height of his career. His demand went beyond the "as seen on TV" Type products to pitching the most popular house hold names like Arm and Hammer.

Billy knew how to sell and he loved selling and he was great at it. So good that he got paid a % of all sales he generated. He was not just hired talent... he was a super star generating as much as 2 to 3 billion dollars in sales.

If you are not acquainted with his work... search for Billy Mays on youtube and check out some of his commercials.

I am sad to see him go. I actually truly enjoyed his smiling face and waving hands even though they were only in commercials. My wife and I often joked with eachother and imitated his hand motions whenever we needed a laugh.

Here is a taste of Billy Mays work starting with some comedy relief:
