Sorry if I posted this in the wrong area, didn't know which category it would fall under.

Okay, so. I won a domain via the godaddy auctions, when I went to go pay for the domain, I payed for the .COM transfer + the private registration.

I got an email today from domains4sale@rootaxis, from the owners of the website with the authorization code.

I go to the auctions and click won, there was a hyperlink next to the "paid" tag. I clicked it and it brought me to a checkout page with the .COM transfer again.

I've already purchased the private registration and transfer, though haven't I?

Advice is needed,
Tyler

Last I knew, you couldn't actually transfer a domain name, but basically APPROVE it. So you basically paid for the rights to have the name, and have to go to whatever registrar to transfer it. THEY will charge you AGAIN(generally about what you would pay for any other name)! BUT, from what I understand, you end up with an EXTENDED length of time on the name. So if they purchased it for two years one year ago, and you pay one years cost on the transfer, you have it for 2 more years. After you transfer it, you can change the nameservers, etc....

    Thanks!

    I really appreciate the 411!

I tried to go through with the checkout process, but got an error. Today I'll call up GoDaddy and see what's up!

    Thanks again!

You should really contact your registrar directly and let them know your concerns.

Just so you know, a domain transfer is called a "push". It's a domain that is pushed from one account or registrar to another.

If the domain is registered at GoDaddy.com it will be very easy to do. Call GoDaddy customer service at 1-480-505-8877 or go to GoDaddy.com and submit a support ticket. If the person you're buying from has a GoDaddy account I'm pretty sure all you need is their account number and username (not their password!).

It's been awhile since I've done it, honestly. I contact GoDaddy every time I do it just to make sure I don't forget something and screw things up. It's especially important to be VERY careful if you're pushing a domain from one registrar to another.

Actually, if you bought it from them they should be doing the push into your account. Contact your registrar (where you want the domain to be transferred) and ask what you need to provide the seller. Once again, don't ask for their password OR share your password for any reason!
