Who do you guys have winning the Superbowl this year and who will be the surprise team?

For me, I have Seattle going back and winning it all. Surprise team, Cleveland Browns. The Browns defense and run game will make them a force this year.

I think Peyton Mannings age will begin to set in and retirement will be discussed.

The Browns better worry about first things first ---> the Steelers at Heinz Field. Pittsburgh has lost 3 straight openers, but I think they will snap that losing streak on Sunday.

Don't count out the Packers. They've already lost their starting center and top backup offensive lineman for the season, but their offense is still loaded. The defense should be much improved as well.

As far as Seattle winning the Superbowl, let's see how they do against the Packers tomorrow night.

Sorry, Bill, but the Brownies go 5-11. And I'm a lifelong fan from Lebrontown.

Browns will shock people this year...I'm a lifelong fan, maybe part of me is just biased...but I think the defense is gonna be really strong and the offense will be a lot better than what we saw in the preseason because we'll utilize the running backs more.

Trust me. I hope you're right. I see a better D, especially if Gilbert steps up. My issue is the horrid receiving corps. Opposing D is going to stack the box and/or bracket Cameron and force our inexperienced QB (either one) to throw.

I don't think the receivers have to be "great". We've got a decent offensive line and a good running back in Ben Tate...I'd like for them to use Isaiah Crowell more along with Tate...If they run the ball more than they pass they'll be fine because that's the strength of the offense.

I think Cameron and Austin will have good years receiving. It isn't gonna be as bad as people think.

That defense has a load of talent. Armonty Bryant is gonna be special.

My Seahawks will win the Super Bowl - again!

I'm going to make a shocker prediction for the AFC and say that Cincinnati beats San Diego in the AFC championship game.

Seattle over Philadelphia in the NFC championship game.

I don't think Philly will get that far. They always choke in the big game

Actually, I don't think any team from the NFC East will get past the first round - and I am a Giants fan.

Don't count Peyton out. Denver could make another appearance this year.

He's an undersized late round draft pick and the Dallas D-Line is weak --> not much more to say than that.

My prediction, Colts 31 Broncos 28:
Sorry TL, not going to happen. If Green Bay walked into a buzz saw, your Colts are headed directly into a stampede.

You did beat us last year in Indy. But there's been a few changes since then. That game, both our starting tackles were out. We had to move All Pro OG Louis Vasquez to RT, where he played tackle for the only game in his career.

Mathis had a field day, with two sacks, 4 hits and forced Manning to fumble (for a safety?). Mathis also injured Peyton's ankle on one of those hits.

This time, you don't have Mathis and we have both Clady and Franklin back.

And, we have Demarcus Ware and Von Miller and your OL is hurting.

Plus, we're at home this time and the Broncos have had a very bad taste in their mouth since the Super Bowl loss...

        Broncos win comfortably.

Originally Posted by Dennis Gaskill View Post

Their inside linebackers are horrible. AJ Hawk is washed up, and never did live up to the expectations. Brad Jones may be the worst inside linebacker in the league. With BJ Raji lost for the season, his backup, Letroy Guion who came over from the Vikings, looked weak and was totally ineffective. HaHa Clinton-Dix missed more tackles than he made, and dropped an interception.

I've lost confidence in Dom Capers. Maybe the people calling for his head last year and the year before were right.

The offensive line was supposed to be the best McCarthy has had, but after injuries it's perilously thin, and the depth they thought they had was apparently grossly overrated. Sherrod is an inconsistent flop. Rogers is going to get killed if that's the best they've got.

The Packers should have won the game in Seattle 3 years ago, and would have if not for the "fail Mary" call by the replacement refs. Clearly the talent gap between the teams has widened since then.

This was a horrible week for sports for Wisconsinites. The Badgers blew a 24-7 second half lead and lost to LSU, the Brewers have lost 9 games in a row and fell out of first place after leading the division since April 4th, and now this. It's enough to make a fella want to give up sports.

I didn't get to see the whole game because we had a roofing contractor over writing up a contract to fix our hail damage, but what the announcers said was Sherman was on Boykin the whole game. Boykin is the Packer's number 3 receiver. If Seattle's best defensive back is on the Packer's number 3 receiver, it's not illogical not to throw his way.
I wouldn't take this loss too hard. I don't think any team in the NFL would have won under these circumstance.

I'm more concerned about injuries to your OL and Raji. I still think you'll win your division, if you don't lose too many more players.

Seattle looks very good, but I still want to see them play on the road. I think they lost a little on D, but will be better on O.

Percy Harvin is a great player, so good he even made Tim Tebow look good in college. But can he stay heathy for the entire season?

Seattle also drafted Paul Richardson in the 2nd. He's from Colorado and I watched his college career. He's a real speedster, has excellent hands, and will be a very good pro. Reminds me of Desean Jackson.

Between Harvin and Richardson, the Seahawks have some serious speed on the outside.

Raji is done for the year. Brian Bulaga left the game injured but it's supposed not a serious injury. The thing is, it's the same knee he tore his MCL in last year in the first game and missed the rest of the year. It didn't look like a big hit he took on the knee, so maybe it's not going to hold up. The only bright spot on the OL was the rookie center held his own.

It's not the offense I'm concerned about though, it's the defense. The GM doesn't seem to draft very well on the defensive side of the ball. A lot of folks are saying the game has passed Capers by. I don't know if it's that or a lack of talent, but the defense has been bad for a few years now. If they can't stop the run they're in trouble.

As for the injuries, it seems like every year the Packers are one of the most injured teams in the NFL. They've already got 6 players out for the year, and one on injured reserve/designated to return.

You were right this time as your Broncos outlasted my Colts 31-24 but hopefully we'll see you again in the playoffs.

How about the Pats losing to Miami?

Is this the year the Pats fall off the table?

Since they prevented my Colts from advancing in the playoffs many times - I'd love to see it.

I started watching the 49ers vs Cowboys game and thought for a minute it was in SF because the crowd was full of red niner shirts, hats and jackets. Anyone else watch that game? I can't remember seeing so many niner fans in another stadium and they drowned out the Dallas fans, who didn't really have much to make noise about the way the game went.

I understand the Cowboys stadium is #1 in ticket sales at stubhub and the Niner fans are #1 in purchasing tickets at other stadiums. Jerry Jones was asked about it after the game and said he didn't notice. lol

WOW - the season has not started yet and I am already surprised - surprised that some fans actually think Cleveland will be any good. Johnny Football will be the biggest flop since Ryan Leaf.

Seatle and SF will be the top two NFC teams with Denver and New England the tops for the AFC.
Being a homer I expect that the Patriots will win it all!

Arizona Cardinals will make the playoffs this season. Seahawks will win the NFC West, Arizona will finish 2nd. San Francisco will finish 9-7 and miss the playoffs. Their defense has lost 2 HUGE pieces to suspensions. Also, as good as Frank Gore is and Carlos Hyde appears to be, they're thin at running back. Kendall Hunter and LaMichael James are both hurt and Marcus Lattimore may never recover enough to play in the NFL.

St. Louis is loaded on defense, but they're weak on offense with the loss of Sam Bradford. You'd think that they would have signed a veteran to come in instead of Case Keenum. I don't understand that logic.

I predict just the opposite...Peyton will once again be in consideration for the NFL MVP.

As a die-hard Bronco fan, here's some info:

    - Peyton is stronger and better conditioned than he's ever been in his life. As a matter of fact, his cardio is so good that in a conditioning test, his heart beat was 10 BPM lower than the next closest Bronco.

    - His arm is now stronger than it's been since his neck surgery a while back.

    - Peyton competed 80% (IIRC) of his passes in the preseason.

    - He's coming off his best year ever and maybe the best year ever by a QB (at least in the regular season).

    - While Welker is out for the first 4 games, I believe our receivers are improved over last year with the signing of Sanders and our second round pick Latimer, who's looked very good in camp and preseason.

    - Ryan Clady is back. Clady is one of the top 2-3 pass protecting LTs in football. He missed all but the first two games last year, including the Super Bowl. Clady looks healthy and has been stone-walling DEs in the preseason.

Overall, my Broncos have 23 players on the active roster that didn't play in the Superbowl against the Seahawks, including 5 pro bowl players:

    Ware
    Talib
    TJ Ward
    Clady
    Von Miller

Von Miller has looked great and is tremendous shape, mentally and physically. Adding Demarcus Ware to the other side will take the heat off Miller.

I predict Von Miller will win the NFL defensive player of the year.

For tonight's game, I think the Packers are walking into a buzz saw. Sorry Dennis. Opening night with the Seahawks raising the Championship Banner, at Seattle, is just too much for any team.

For the season, Dallas and SF (sorry Tim) will take a step back. The Texans will take a step or two up.

The Super Bowl will be a repeat of last year, with the Broncos winning this time 44-7, scoring one more point than the Seahawks did last year, and giving up one fewer.

Seattle shuts down Green Bay 36-16 along with gaining almost 200 yards on the ground.

They forced Aaron Rodgers to get rid of the ball much quicker than he wanted while they also took away his favorite pass play - the deep in.

    BTW...

Not one pass was thrown in Richard Sherman's direction.

A lot of debate last night and this morning on the effectiveness of the strategy. Lots of folks including Heinz Ward were not impressed, but many peeps on the other side of the issue are saying Sherman shut down the entire side of the field, Deon style, which made it quite easy on the rest of the defense. I read a quote from Sherman saying he thought the Packers were trying to bait him out of the scheme but he wouldn't bite. Generally speaking, I am a fan of the shut down one side of the field philosophy, and according to many that watched the entire game Seattle was definitely successful at that.

But it you only watched the game, you know he made half the field disappear.
I only watched part of the game but Pete Carroll seemed well pleased..

“I talked to Richard in the locker room about it,’’ Carroll said. “He was kind of disappointed that he wasn’t able to help us more. But he helped us immensely by the fact that they cut the field in half.’’

Richard Sherman bored with watching 10-on-10 game | ProFootballTalk
I looked around a bit for the chart that shows the breakdown of exactly where the passes went...but I have not seen it yet. All I can say is playing QB in the NFL with one eye closed is never a good thing.

Yeah, a tough week for you cheeseheads, no doubt. I really enjoy watching ballgames at Miller Park and I think it's still a great facility. I"m most certainly not a Big W fan...but I may drive to Iowa City tomorrow and catch the Ball State vs Iowa game at Kinnick if I can score a couple of decent tickets.

        Cheers

I wonder... how has Mr. Sherman offended ye with his attitude?

All summer we heard about how the Packer's new defensive schemes and upgraded roster were going to cause fits for offenses. Looked like the same old crap that got them bounced from the playoffs in one game last year, and I think the year before as well.

That was GB's choice since Sherman stays on the left side of the defense.

I know. It was the coaches decision, and he's being criticized for it in the local media. Still, it wasn't an illogical decision at the time, but it doesn't seem to have been a good decision. And yet, we won't know what would have happened if they had thrown his way.

    After watching last nights game;
    The Seahawks will repeat.

Can't count Peyton out, he's too tough, competetive, and talented.

I am cautiously optimistic that the Bungles will be the surprise of the season.
Just wish they'd have ditched Marvin and promoted Zimmer to Head Coach.

Mr. Zimmer has his own team in Minnesota. I can't wait to see how well he does.

Once again Marvin has brought your team to respectability which was not an easy feat for a troubled franchise.

Marvin Lewis in 2013 extended his Bengals record for head coaching tenure to 11 seasons.

He has led the team to the postseason in four of the last five seasons,...

... making the Bengals one of only six teams to make four or more playoff trips in that span.

Lewis has 90 career victories, 26 more than any other Bengals head coach (Sam Wyche ranks second at 64).

        Bengals History - 2013 - Cincinnati Bengals
Of all the good/great coaches the Bengals had and let go it's amazing that they would keep a mediocre head coach.
His success is a result of 2 things.

1: Mikey boy has relinquished much of the control of the team to "Punkin" and her husband, Troy.

2: In turn they have given Marvin more power than any head coach since Paul Brown.

The result: Better drafts, and more respect from the players for Marvin because they know he has control over who plays.
Before, Mikey boy told the coach who to play and who to sit, and the players knew it.

Coslet resigned because he Cory Dillion left the game and, literally pushed Coslet aside when Coslet
ordered him to get back on the field.
Dillion knew Coslet couldn't do anything.

And giving this "mediocre" coach more power has resulted in...

..your Bengals going to the playoffs 4 of the last 5 years in which only 6 other teams have been able to do.

I guess I need to remind you of your franchises' record before this "mediocre" coaches' tenure.

Before he came your Bengals were the Bungles and now they are not and once again...

...your Bengals have gone to the playoffs 4 of the last 5 years in which only 6 other teams have been able to do.

IMHO, with you teams' pitiful history, I would think the average Bengal fan would have some respect for the job the coach has done but not you.

Your problem with the coach must be personal because you can't argue with his success in turning around a joke of a franchise.

I'll not comment on your interesting and what would seem to most people as ungrateful insubordination anymore - after all its between you and your team.

Yeah, my wife has been a Cowboys fan since 1970 and she was pissed yesterday while we were watching the game as the SF fans were as loud as the Dallas fans. The Cowboys faithful need something to cheer about and it may be time to cut Garrett loose. Mediocrity does not play well in Dallas, and unfortunately for Cowboys fans, that's what they have been getting for years now.

Hey! We agree on something, Tim! Yeah, the officiating was beyond horrible in that game and I thought it was pretty terrible in all of the games I watched. It was really, really, really bad, no doubt about that.

I think the NFL is trying to increase scoring because they think that's what most fans want.
