How old are you, and how long have you been in the "IM game"?

I'm 26... and I've been "casually" involved with internet marketing for a little over 3 years now. In all that time I've probably made $150 total... so I'm still trying to figure everything out! I blame myself for not taking enough action though and doing a lot of "research" and buying of WSO's and what not.

That isn't actually a good advertisement for your sig file is it?

So, according to the OP's website, she's been a "successful Internet marketer for almost 4 years". Yet in that entire time she's made only $150...

Strange thing is after posting both of them, neither of them showed up at my end.

Wow... lots of backlash but no real answers to my question?? Thanks guys... super helpful.

Obviously I lied a little... Saying I've only made $150 in 4 years of IM doesn't exactly make me sound credible now does it? And "successful" is subjective... I've made SOMETHING, so that can be "considered" success.

Get off my back would you guys, geez.

With all due respect, you set yourself up for the backlash you received. You didn't just lie "a little". You told a whopper. Yes, the term successful is subjective, but that's a lame excuse. I highly doubt there's a person on this forum who would consider someone who's made a little over $3.00 a month, on average, over the span of "almost 4 years" a "successful Internet marketer".

Would you buy any of the eBooks you have listed on your site from someone with your track record of "success"? Probably not.

      Hey CA,
      I agree.
You are talking about lying a little, and you don't expect a backlash in here ??????

We rightfully try to weed out the bad apples because IM in general has such a bad name with so much dishonesty

People lie all the time in IM... fake screen shots, fake names, etc.

It's not my website... It's my Fiverr profile. And I said that because that's what I WANT to become and that's my goal...

And I don't expect to get there buy selling $5 PLR eBooks on Fiverr but this is a method I learned about from a WSO I bought so I was ACTUALLY TRYING to take action on something and "test" this method out.

I said successful because it's something I'm working towards even though I'm not there yet... I lied a little, so what. I'm not trying to sell someone a 5k coaching program... I'm trying to sell them a PLR eBook on IM so I don't think my level of success really matters... if they're interested they'll buy it, if not they won't.

I created this thread cuz I wanted to get to know others in the IM world and see where they are at in terms of age & success... I didn't mean to be shot down & ridiculed. I guess I'll be more careful next time about what I say :/

So, that makes it okay? Your logic is really flawed. Sady, it's people like you who give IM such a bad name. Not everyone in the "IM game" is dishonest. But if that's your rationale for your lies, good luck with that approach to life. The sooner you learn that you can be honest and successful, the better off you'll be. Or you can just keep lying and making excuses for it. Your choice.

You weren't "shot down & ridiculed". You were called out on your dishonesty. There's a valuable lesson to be learned in this thread, and it's not to keep lying and just be more careful about what you say. I sincerely hope, for your sake, that you learn the lesson. I guarantee it will serve you well in life if you do.

I am glad you took it in a positive way, some newbies have got quite serious about the backlash, and it has gotten ugly, to say the least!

But yeah, you need to be careful, there is a fine line between being broke and saying, by my ?, because it will make you rich.

But on the other hand if you are pushing Amway, then it is possible, l know of someone making, 30k a month, but it took a hell of a lot of effort to get there.

And if you are not doing it yourself, then the line blurrs a little more.

But if you offer a 100% refund, then there shouldn't be too big an issue?

Yes, l am looking into that as well through a WSO, l bought a while ago.

Mixed results, so far, l suspect that Fiverr is over-saturated with this stuff, so it will probably be harder to pull of than first imagined!

But l have seen some promising results, so just like Adwords, when it becomes to saturated, either get more creative or find offbeat niches.

I am just churning out gigs, at present and seeing where the profits lie, then cutting back on the junk.

But unless l need to wait longer for the traffic to catch up, to get the ball rolling, something should happen soon?

        Good luck!

Graphicriver is another one to look into, they are very picky, and you could pay someone to do some graphic work for you, but it is like Fiverr without the 20 gig limit, so worth a look!

I have been online for almost 6 years, and these are the only two l would bother with, since they overcome the main barrier to wealth, namely how to get cheap traffic to your offer?

I gave you a bit of a hard time for your sweeping generalizations about WSO's in another thread, but this time I won't give you a hard time. In fact, I'm going to try to help you if you're willing to hear me out with an open mind.

First, I'll answer your original question so you have an idea of where I'm coming from... I'm 59, and I've earned a full-time living online since the late 1990's.

Now, first you need to know the Off Topic forum is a little different from the rest of the site. The average age of the regulars is probably older than the rest of the place. Our BS meter is almost always on, and we tend to speak our minds. We can have a knock-down, drag-out argument in one thread, and joke around with the same people we were arguing with in another thread. There's a lot of smart people here, and that's a key reason many of us hang out in the OT.

Now, many folks here have had success without cheating, lying, or faking it. That's not to say we don't try to present ourselves and our products and services in the best light we can, but we don't compromise our integrity in the process.

You're making the same mistake many make . . . you're copying the wrong model. You're copying those who do the very things you don't like, at least if you were being honest in your rant about all WSO's being crap. You've bought into their hype, assuming they were successful, and decided that's how you have to be. It's not how you have to be, and in copying them, you become them.

My suggestion is you first decide what kind of marketer and what kind of person you want to be. Once you decide that, then model yourself after that kind of person.

For what it's worth, dishonesty can sometimes have more speed, but honesty has more staying power. I encourage you to take the long-term approach. You'll actually be building a business, and will likely feel better about yourself in the process.

Lastly, I want to encourage others not to pile on the OP with condemnation, but answer her query and offer some encouragement. I think she's probably a good kid at heart, let's not make her feel like she's anything less.

Wow, thanks for your sincere reply, I really appreciate it!

The WSO I read and took action on, (the reason for my sig) was kind of the reason I went on that "Most WSO's are crap" rant anyway... because my gigs have been up for a little over a week now, hardly and clicks and 0 sales. The WSO creator said I should have sales within 24 hours and said you can make $50-$70/day doing this, (or whatever it was).

And this is not the only WSO I took action on and haven't seen any results with... I've bought my fair share, and nothing ever seems to pan out. So I guess you can say I'm a little jaded by it now and sick of spending my money on something I think will make me money, all but to be disappointed.

I like & appreciate your advice... and I do want to be an honest marketer (in the long run). This was a simple project I put up that only took me a couple hours, as a "test" to see if it would really work. Like I said it's definitely not my long term business goal. I have several other "legit" and "honest" projects in the works... this was just for fun, to see if it works.

$50-70 a day???? Phew, the one l bought is a bit less than that!

Sales within 24 hours, l have quite a few up, with one sale! And that was for a PLR graphics type offer.

That offer was off the beaten path, which explains, the 16 visitors, and the sale.

So, as l said, the PLR path, is probably a tough one to pull off, but l might be eating my words in the next few weeks?

Fiverr is only 3 years old, so just as long as you give it a fair go, then opportunities should appear?

But 24 hours, sounds like some sugar coating is taking place, although l do know someone on Fiverr, who got some sales pretty much straight away and became a top seller, so it is possible, but unlikely, especially for PLR!

Dennis gave you some good advice. Bottom line - if you want to be honest and ethical it's what you do in all of your business and projects.

I've been playing around online since 2001 - seriously since 2005 (after Katrina) - and I guess I'm doing OK as I still have my house and a life.

Kudos to Dennis for his high minded, classy post.

Yes, character and integrity will get you farther.

Offering your own products and services, and affiliate marketing of quality products and services seem to be the better route to take. (I'm in the offline world.)

As for your fiverr stuff, people are not going to believe that one person can have expertise and teach about all those areas. You might pick one or two of those topics - the ones you like the most and know the most about - and limit yourself to promoting those. Also, you are presenting too many choices.
