13 years ago I sat with my mother and we made vacation plans. A friend came over and told me that in America a plane had flown into a house.
I thought nothing more of me. He said then that would just be seen on TV. Okay, I told myself, I'll go see what's going on.

When I looked at the TV, hit me almost fainted. I did not understand what was going on. Since a tower of the World Trade Center was in flames and people jumped out of the window. I could see how a person from the very top jumped out the window. I followed the whole fall.

Who is so stupid and overlooking a tower of the World Trade Center? Is not there a no-fly zone?

In TV, the image was divided. You saw the news anchor and a live recording from the burning World Trade Center. The newscaster was connected with the American correspondents. The image now always moved from one man to another man. Only the live image from the tower was always visible.

And then it happened. While the two men still talking, but hits the second aircraft in the other tower.

I think everyone has experienced the attack on his own personal way. And this has been etched in people's minds. Ask people what they have been given last Christmas. Most people do not know more. Ask people where they were on vacation three years ago. Many have to think twice. Where were you on 9/11/2001? Everyone knows that.

I am writing this here, so you know that here in Germany have wept with you many people. Many of us have grieved with you. We have mourned the American people, which we did not know. Which we have never seen. We were and we are in our thoughts with you.

Unfortunately suffered here in Germany the image of the USA in the last 10 years. Reasons for this came from the American government in heaps. Of course, the policy always plays a big role in the image decay. We here in Germany could not understand the war in Iraq. Was this really a proxy war for the attack on the World Trade Center?

The Iraq war was a war that has made ​​everything worse. And the alleged weapons of mass destruction were never found. There were none. Was ruined when the U.S. politicians argued to insult Europe and especially Germany, was spoken in the pejorative of "old Europe" even more the image. The last remnant came through the NSA affair.

How would you react if available in the "New York Times" tomorrow, we would listen to Obama's phone? We're friends, right?

Yes, we are. Even though I obviously can not speak for all German, unfortunately there is just something like an anti-US wave due to the aforementioned reasons.

But most people have not forgotten that not only Europe, but we here in Germany itself, were freed from the Nazis, because American soldiers who gave their blood in Normandy. It's not forget the airlift in Berlin and not the American influence in the reunification of Germany.

Without the USA, Germany would become a peasant state, thanks to the Marshall Plan, we have German managed to become one of the strongest economies with one of the best social services.
Even if some have forgotten here, we're friends.

My ultimate goal in life is to travel one day to the USA and meet yourselves. I want to look to the waterfalls in Ground Zero and read every single name on the site. I'm in love with your country I own books on New York, San Francisco, LA, Route 66, travel routes and much more. I do not miss any episode of "America from above" and I've seen many documentaries about your country.

I do not know if I'll ever reach that goal. But at least once a year, I am with you!
