Never seen a cattlegrid upclose in person, but I guess this sheep passed the obstacle with flying colors.

    That's incredible!

I've seen lots of cattle guards... use to go fishing in Wyoming up in open range. Cattle guards were everywhere and were very efficient at keeping cattle in (or out as the case may be). Guess they don't apply to sheep.

I guess they need a sheepguard for that... So what does it actually do? Stop their hooves from steppin' on it?

The cattle are afraid their feet will fall through, so they won't cross it.

lol ... we've got two cattle guards in our driveway, one just before you enter our gate. They work. No cattle or horses getting in here. But apparently ... not so effective on sheep.

The same thought came about this: Is it really true you can't push cows down the stairs?

Stairs are not "automatic" for animals. We take them for granted but I had a large dog who had never been exposed to steps and it was a real trauma for him when he had to go up and down stairs.

He'd been raised from puppyhood in my home which is one level. When we evacuated before Katrina we stayed on the lower level of my younger son's multi-level house and had a door to go outside. But to access the family area or even the deck area required climbing the stairs and it was really hard to convince Wrex to do that.

I would think any animals can learn to use stairs but probably need to start at a young age.
