Can't watch the video out here in the sticks, but a 5 minute video to watch an iPhone drop? lol. What does it do, the Irish Jig?

Haha! Only if while jigging you fall a certain way and crack your face.

Scientific experiments take time I guess. It has to be dropped properly
from different positions. As in marketing we say TEST everything.

It does do the jig in one of the tests--falling on the side.

...and people can waste an incredible amount of precious time in the process of trying to do that.

Well, the bigger and thinner glass gets, the WEAKER it gets! The thinner the case, the more likely the pressure, You can guess. On the face tests, it shattered, and bulged out. I guess the screen is separate from the lcd, which probably isn't that unusual, so they were at least somewhat usable. The OTHER tests PASSED but, AGAIN, outside of glass shattering, you wouldn't expect them to fail.

I just wonder why they think a bigger phone is a great idea. My Droid is the perfect size. I mean, Apple already has the ipad and mini ipads, so why do people want to carry around a large phone? Beats me. I guess they are more of a technophobe than I am.

YEAH, the smaller THE BETTER! DICK TRACY HAD IT RIGHT! The reason why they want it bigger is because it ISN'T a phone! What they call a "smart phone" is a computer with a VOIP application. And they have succeeded in getting computers SO SMALL and SO powerful, that they are doing another thing I predicted. Making them bigger to be more usable.

HECK, they are talking more about phablets! A PHABLET is really nothing new. They always wanted the tablet, the idea even came up in the original startrek. And they ALSO always wanted the longdistance wireless. HECK, most tablets have the voip app REMOVED, as android was for PHONES! But they want a HUGE phone that they don't want to sell as a phone, so the PHABLET!

What does being technophobic have to do with it? All the phones work similarly. The jitterbug is small. It had big buttons ONLY for usability by less coordinated people and those that have poor vision.

Until I was 30, I would have been ECSTATIC with a device about 3x5, that somehow fit a keyboard in,or had a stylus. NOW, maybe 12" diagonal is better. WHY? I'm older and less capable there. Of course, I don't want a12" phone EITHER! I guess they will have to work towards small phones, and tablets. As the two get closer to one another, BOTH will lose marketshare!

I was actually looking forward to this phone as I hadn't upgraded to the 5s or whatever it is but it was the fact they made it bigger that I'm a little unsure. I heard they had 2 different sizes but I've not looked into enough but I was quite happy with the size of all the previous Iphones.

As you said, you can get an Ipad mini so I'm not sure why they did what they did but as you said, they're more of a technophobe than I am too.

This is why iPhone users have to use protective gears on their phones. I've had my iPhone 5 since 2012, but I've never dropped it carelessly.

I was waiting for something worthwhile, like the phone saying "Hey, you dropped me. Don't leave me laying here."

I think by trying to make it as thin as possible they shaved off too many layers for the glass.
