Ontario County District Attorney Michael Tantillo said the victim, Kevin Ward Jr., was under the influence of marijuana the night of the accident "enough to impair judgment." And he said two videos examined by investigators showed "no aberrational driving by Tony Stewart."

I never really cared much for Stewart. He was always too much of a hot head.

But I do not see how he could have been charged with this.

The guy was reckless and now we know he was probably high.

I know it is easier said than done but Stewart needs to jump back in his Car and start back Racing
And move on with his Life

He has already done that. I believe he only skipped one race.

Smoke skipped 3 Nascar Sprint Cup races before returning to racing in Atlanta on Aug. 31. The races he skipped were Watkins Glen (Aug. 10th), Michigan (Aug 17th) and Bristol (Aug 23rd). Tony was granted a waiver by Nascar that would have allowed him into the Chase if he would have won at Atlanta or Richmond. Tony ended up missing the Chase for the third time in eleven years.

        Cheers

More facts than I actually needed, but OK. lol

We actually do a NASCAR report on the sports show I engineer every week. Shows you how much attention I pay to that. About as much as I do to the football report.

Fortunately, the NHL season is right around the corner. :-)

Eh - what is this "NHL" of which you speak?

That would be the only sport left that hasn't been totally ruined.

It certainly beats the NFL - National Felon League. :-)

                How about rugby?

Not my cup of tea. Hockey is more than just the game. It's the history, the traditions, a link to childhood memories, the respect players show toward one another and the game itself and many other intangibles that simply cannot be put into words.

Obviously no sport is perfect and hockey has it bad points but most of those are a result of the 'fans,' though not true hockey aficionados. I never try to change anyone's mind about their view of the sport. All I know is it is the only sport that interest me, that I have a certain type of love for, that has on more than one occasion brought me to tears and that is meaningful to my life. How can one explain that? I've watched numerous games where the last 2 or 3 minutes were some of the most exciting moments in my life and I actually felt as if my heart would stop beating. Non-stop, blistering action from end-to-end. Awesome!

What I do know is I am responsible for turning all of my childhood friends on to the professional game. When the Flyers came into the league they couldn't even give tickets away. At the time I was working as the sales manager at Triumph of Philadelphia. We bought advertising in their program and the ad-exec gave us hundreds of tickets to the upcoming season. Many hundreds. lol I took everyone I knew and to this day they all maintain that it was one of the best things that I ever did for them. We all share a love of the game that has never subsided to this very day. I'm happy that I was able to instill that love for them game in them. It's funny what winds up meaning the most to you as you age. :-)

You either 'get' hockey or you don't - just like most things in life I guess. Most people are totally ignorant on the subject so I don't waste my time trying to sway them. These things are personal and not important in the grand scheme of life. Simply a diversion - nothing more. When my team scores a goal I'm not jumping up out of my chair high-fiving anyone in sight. Then, again - I'm not half drunk. My reaction to games, win or lose, is generally the same - low-key and satisfying, unless my team stinks-up the joint. I have, on rare occasions been know to question a player's parentage at a high decibel level.

Sports and the love of them is strange. Hey - some people like ultimate cage fighting. I don't personally know of anyone that graduated high school that does, but I'm sure there are few out there. There's no accounting for taste - or lack thereof. lol

I used to love baseball, but they destroyed that game. Don't get me wrong, I still love my NY Yankees, but I haven't watched a single game this year and only one or two, last year. Leaving the batter's box to adjust your batting gloves after every single pitch just doesn't do it for me. It's a joke. Three hour snoozefests. That saddens me as baseball is in my blood. My dad took me to my first game in Yankee stadium when I was 6 weeks old and I grew up to play a pretty mean shortstop. I ran like the wind. I can still remember what that felt like.

Ah, youth - totally wasted on the young!

As for all of those football players that point to the sky after a touchdown and baseball players that do likewise after a home run - I've got bad news for them. God is actually a big hockey fan and a NY Rangers fan at that! lol

                  Cheers. - Frank

P.S. I think that tonight is Derek Jeeter's last home game. One of the greatest players to ever don pinstripes. I'll see you in the Hall, captain.

I hope you know I'm teasing when I bust on Hockey. I have nothing against it, but rather simply never got into it. A bunch of years ago (early-mid 90s) I had a vendor who gave me 2 tickets to a Rangers - Penguins game which turned out to be some very good seats. I wasn't interested so I gave them away.

I agree about baseball. I used to love the games. If I couldn't watch a game I would listen on the radio. My brother and I followed both the Yankees and the Mets (early 70's through late 80's). I simply got bored with it.

Football too. At one point I would watch any football game that was on.

Over the past dozen years or so I can't remember the last time I sat through an entire baseball or football game. I catch highlights on ESPN or something, but that's it.

And what's with fantasy football anyway? Seems like people are more in to THAT than the actual games. It's like a religion around these parts:

"Ooo, no I can't go out tonight! It's draft night in my fantasy football league!"

Basketball is another one I never got in to.

I will say though that the current crop of players/felons/self-absorbed athletes is NOT what turned me off to these sports. I just - stopped. More important things came up...

Well, we'll never know if it was a great contest that would have hooked you for life or a real stinker that would have soured you on the game.
                      I agree about baseball.
How could any objective and reasonable person, not? I ain't making this crap up as I go along. The latest thing that bemuses me in baseball is the 'walk-off' home run. They act like they just won the 7th game of the World Series. Simply laughable. Hey, guys - save a little sumpin' why dontcha? And the champagne showers for winning the pennant. Grow up!

I used to lay in bed listening to the Phillies when they were bums. Broke my heart, repeatedly. When I think back, it's hard to understand how totally crushed I was. It all seemed so important, laying in bed with your rally cap on. lol
Football too. At one point I would watch any football game that was on.
How many football games can a person watch in one lifetime. something's just not right when your life revolves around a game.
Over the past dozen years or so I can't remember the last time I sat through an entire baseball or football game.
I can. Army-Navy in 1967 and the last Yankee's World Series game. lol
I catch highlights on ESPN or something, but that's it.
I DVR that and zip right through them. Couldn't care less. lol

I can't help you with that at all. I don't think that out of the few people I have any real contact with, any of them are involved in that.

I am forced to be in a CBS Sports football pool for the sports radio show that I engineer each weekend. I might as well through darts at the paper, although I was 2 and 0 and had Denver last week. A bold pick if there ever was one. lol Needless to say that it infuriates the host when I pick winners and he's 0 and 3. :-)
Basketball is another one I never got in to.
I'm 5'4' on a good day, before I actually stand up. Nothing more need be said on the subject.

They had to go through the process for the sake of Ward's friends and family and others who may have thought there was wrong doing.

Crazy this would even get to court. The guy running around the dirt track was obviously an idiot with a death wish. It's not like racers can quickly stop a drifting dirt track car.

Well, that's even funnier although I do appreciate the kind words. There was a brief period in my life where I actually wrote for some of my income. I covered east coast AMA road racing for the now defunct Motor Cycle Weekly. I covered hockey for what was at the time Philly's coolest underground weekly, 'The Drummer.' Also did some freelancing for the Evening Bulletin covering motocross events. I wonder if there is any direct correlation between my contribution to their pages and the fact that they are now out of business. I'm hoping it's more that I've just been a live for quite a while. lol

Being the proud recipient of a GED which I acquired while in the Army, I have always questioned how I ever wound up doing that type of work for any length of time. I had an editor at the Drummer, who always got me to do stories that I had no interest in doing by telling me I was his 'best' writer. One day I asked him why he thought I was his best writer. He said it was because when he read my pieces he felt as if he was sitting on a bar stool next to me and was just listening to me talk. He said that they just can't teach that in journalism school. lol

When I first arrived in NYC to pursue my acting career I did what everyone does and signed up for acting classes with a well respected but long retired thespian. I informed her that I had never had a professional acting class before and that I was extremely grateful that she had accepted me based upon my theatrical resume and that I was very excited.

My very first class, I got up, did my 3 minute monologue and sat down, terrified that I was going to get reamed. There was a moment of silence and then the instructor said to me, "Mr. Falcone, I am going to have to ask you to leave this class." Not a peep from the other students. I think they were afraid to even breathe.

"Oh, my," I thought to myself. "Even worse than I imagined."

I slowly gathered my belongings, feeling as if I had been rabbit punched. I could sense the blood draining from my face. "I'm very sorry," I meekly replied, as I headed toward the exit, feeling quite mortified.

Just as I approached the doorway she said, "Stop! Now turn around and look at me." Even though my first instinct was to just walk out the door, I did as I was instructed. "Aren't you going to ask me why I'm not allowing you to continue taking my class?" I said something along the lines of, paraphrasing of course, "Uh, I obviously suck at this and am completely devoid of any talent, whatsoever?"

"Not at all," she said. "I'm not allowing you to take this class because what you demonstrated in that three minute reading was something that you could never learn in this class. There is nothing that I can teach you that you don't already possess. I would advise you to never take an acting class, anywhere, from anyone, lest you taint the talent you were born with. Now - get out there and become a working actor."

Wow, right? I took her advice, never took an acting class and went on to have quite a nice career doing national TV commercials and small character parts on most of the soap operas shooting in those days. I had a blast, though I was despised, professionally by all of my friends that preceded me to Manhattan and still hadn't landed anything while I would have 2 or 3 commercials running at the same time and a mailbox stuffed with residual checks. I loved it.

I would have stayed in that business but could not come to terms with the fact that my career would always be determined by the whims of a director or casting director at any given audition. I'm much more suited to creating my own destiny. So I milked it for all I could, took my money and moved to the Poconos where I purchased a hotel/bar/restaurant and started the next chapter of my life.

While I like to say I have few regrets in life, when I'm brutally honest with myself I must admit that if there is one thing I should have stuck with in my life, it was acting. I never actually acted. It was more like letting different aspects of my personality come to the forefront based on the role at hand.

I rarely suffer pangs of sadness, either - but when I watch the Tony Awards each year, I realize that I made one huge turn in my life that I never should have made. I coulda been a 'star.' lol Of course, I would have died of a cocaine overdose during that run, but hey, if it was good enough for John Belushi, it would have been good enough for me.

In my next life, I intend to do get it right. :-)

          Cheers. - Frank

No one says you can't shoot for an Act 2. Look up the impressive list of actors who made it later in life.

Growing up, we lived in a rented 2 family house. The owner used to act part time and we used to see him on the soaps all the time (going back to the early 80s on this). Also did lots of commercials. Couldn't tell you how old he was but I would guess in his 40s when we lived there and he continued long after we left.

Hi Mike. No, no going back. If I sounded wistful it's just due to old age rearing its ugly head.

I live by the credo that I would not change a single thing about my past if it would change where I am today as I truly believe that the best is yet to come.

I'm actually fairly content with my existence. :-)

              Cheers. - frank

                I hear ya.

I have very few regrets in life. None of them even worth thinking about. Everything I have done or not done in my life lead me to where I am now. Which is "Happyland"
