A little over 9 months ago I decided I was bored with the drum kit I have. Instead of buying a new one I decided to rebuild the one I have. This is what I started with.

I took off the wraps, tweaked the shells and stained them. But I ran out of money before I could replace the bass drum hoops.
Well the new hoops came in Weds. I went with Maple hoops to replace the metal ones.
New hoops, unfinished. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152784095298343&l=9f2a480996
Finished with 3 coats of Walnut stain and 3 coats of clear.

The next steps will be to replace the lugs on the toms and the tom hoops with wooden hoops. Also planning on building my own snare. Eventually I'll get new Keller VSS shells for all the drums and end up with a complete custom built drum kit worth around 3,000.

Do you have a backup set? If not, how could you go that long without playing? lol, I'm not a good guitarist by any stretch of the imagination, but I have to pick it up every day, usually multiple times each day.

And speaking of that, time for a guitar break...

This is the only kit I have, but I have other drums also.
I actually spend more time daily on my practice pad then I do the kit.
The thing with this kit is I got it cheap and never really liked it. I didn't like the looks and I didn't like the sound. That's what led to me being bored with them.
So far everything I've done to them was to improve both the looks and the tone.

OK, that would work. That would be like me using my electric while I put new frets on my acoustic.

        The drums look good, Thom.
