What is "offline marketing"?

When I see this forum title....to me it says "print ads" "marketing strategy" "direct mail" "television" etc. Then I get in here and it's 95% online marketing discussions. Like falling down a rabbit hole....

I missed something ?
#offline marketing

A made up term (circa 2007-ish) by myopic, SEO consultants and internet marketers inexperienced in the wider world of business to describe the function of performing internet marketing services on behalf of bricks and mortar businesses on a consultative basis after inventing the said services for themselves as an income opportunity.

The wider world of marketing and web development just calls it marketing consulting or just... marketing.

But as they say... when in Rome...

You have to realize that this is an Internet Marketing forum that deals with online marketing and has since its beginning. When the trend started for people to talk about making money doing or teaching Internet Marketing for "offline" businesses, they had to call it something else on here to stand out from all the normal "online" marketing talk.

One of the first reports or threads here on the forum dealing with using internet marketing knowledge to help offline businesses was called "Offline Gold", after that any product that was based on helping offline businesses was referred to as "offline".

It may not be what most people in the real world would think of, but it makes sense to the people here on the forum since it's an Internet Marketing forum dealing with online marketing. "Offline" fits for any Internet Marketing done for real physical businesses in the real world.

Or they could have done a simple switcheroo and everyone would "get it"...

But really only on the Warrior Forum.

Just for fun, go to LinkedIn and start talking about "offline marketing" in the digital marketing group forums and see what kind of responses you get.

It's about helping businesses with locating the 'missing pieces' in their business. These could be related to how their business is structured, how they manage and market their business and many other areas of business growth.

And I thought offline marketing meant the old-school way of marketing a product or service --- SWOT analysis, creating vision/mission statements, defining the target market, creating marketing strategies, implementation, etc.

    There is no interpretation.

Marketing = offline marketing... pretty much everything before the internet came into existence.

Advertising is a part of marketing, it is not marketing as a whole which is what a lot of people mess up, marketing is essentially creating and nurturing relationships for generally commercial benefits of a business...this involves acquisition of customers via promotions and adverts, followed through various techniques once the relationship is established to maintain it such as keeping in touch and gathering information and generating products and offerings for these customers.

Then its positioning the business/brand in the market as a whole, identifying opportunities, minimizing threats, fixing or mitigating weaknesses and maintaining strengths.

Marketing is everything, offline marketing on this forum is essentially any form of marketing that does not operate on a browser... and saying that the greater majority of it is IM guys making real marketers look like scammers, by posing as marketing consultants when in reality they just know how to run a campaign on google and trick out some websites with SEO.

By real marketers I refer to those with proper qualification and experience to properly provide services to clients which they are expecting.

    /end rant.

BlueGlobeSeo i like how you described Offline as old school..! Coming from events and pr myself I know it's probably a fair description!

But have you considered that all the points (ie SWOT analysis, mission statement etc) are still applicable to Online Marketing?

What we refer to as "Offline" marketing, means loosely,"presenting web development services To brick and mortar business owners". Basically "Web Marketing Service Sales".

I believe Andrew C. came out with the term "Offline"... it had went on for years before that but we all just thought of it as "technology sales" or "Hybrid marketing".

In the example of overseas exports I use a combination of contacting us manufacturers by phone to locate product, and I sell them online at Alibaba.com... so thats kind of a "hybrid" model. Another time I marketed to fashion models offline via an offline affiliate network to recruit them to join our modeling website.... that was kind of "hybrid".

Today all of that in my mind falls under the category of what they call "Offline Marketing", though again , round here it loosely means "to sell your services to local brick and mortar biz owners".

    Hope this helps.
