Hey guys, so I'm contemplating bringing a product to market. Already have a supplier who can make it at a reasonable price, branding, copyrights done etc, already got my marketing strategy planned etc, the only thing that I have absolutely no experience with, is getting the packaging done. I know I can easily hire a freelancer to get the package design done but who can I get to actually make the packaging, and sell me it at a nice low bulk rate. The product in general will be very small and flatish so it can fit very easily in most small packaging.

Any recommendations, anyone have personal experience with this? Mainly what I'm looking for is reliable company who can do it for a good price, and if anyone knows what I can expect to pay for it etc that would be great, thanks guys!

That is pretty much exactly what I need with a different shape of course, even though I dont plan on selling these in store fronts, its important to me that it has retail packaging so I can establish the brand and distinguish it from potential fakes that can easily come up in the future since its not hard to make. So I want something like that image but with a little paper inserted like most products with the design, branding etc

Your first step is to decide what type of packaging you want -- box, bubble pack, clam shell,etc.. Once you have done that, look in you local yellow pages(yep, that old relic, or online) for packaging or box manufacturers, in your area. If you can use a standard size box your cost will be less than having one custom die cut. Get a rate sheet or quote for however many you want to have packaged. They are usually sold in lots over 500, but there are some who will do short runs.

Ask if they offer graphic design services and how much. Once you have the dimensions for your packaging you can have you own graphic designer do the artwork.

I said all of that to say this, do your homework first, decide on what type of packaging you want. Not all packagers offer all types of packaging, they specialize.

You could have boxes printed by one source and have the packaging done by another source, like non-profits who provide jobs to the developmentally disabled to actually package products.

Thanks for the advice, I think a clamshell packaging will be the way to go. I'll look into it more thanks!

Plenty of online arts and crafts stores sell all kinds of packaging, the only thing is to decide what best fits you. If the products are fragile you will need a bulkier package so take this into consideration too. After you've decided what boxes to use get right to the design part. If the boxes look nice and artsy you could just apply a sticker with your firms' logo on them and it should look just fine. You know, that minimal design that is so in trend nowadays. It depends a lot on what your are selling, too because it is important that the box matches the content. If you can get some custom made boxes, that are more expensive but also are eye candy for the customers, it would be even better for your sales. Best of luck with your business!

I recommend FCA Packaging, Continuum Packing, Packaging Strategies, Us Packaging & Wrapping, but all of them have minimum order, so maybe some of the requirments are not acceptable for you

I envisioned products being shipped in cases - being removed from said cases and stored individually. Is that correct..

It is about functionality indeed. I run a logistics division where important is the packaging and material itself. .eg. other than the bubblewrap we also use the air bubbles, it works better and indeed saves money as it fills more space with less material
