With a lot of talk and advice on here about how you should be going after the bigger clients.

But what recurring monthly services have people found are an easy sell to mom and pops/highstreet businesses whilst offering value and visible results? I know lead generation will probably be top of the list and 9x12 is another popular one.

In my view the best answer may be to serve as "the marketing department" for smaller companies that do not have dedicated marketing department.

You would perform whatever duties an in-house marketing department would provide.

You get in with a small firm, show them some sales/profits and you can be servicing them for a long time to come.

With small clients, you can go after the obvious stuff - like:
    • Web Design
    • Reputation Management
    • SEO
    • Lead Generation
But just remember, small businesses are highly bottom line oriented. So if you aren't able to get immediate results, just be prepared to see your clients leave.

On the other hand, if you absolutely must work with small clients - then another avenue you can take is to go in with services that stroke the owner's ego by making them look good in front of their peers.

This would be design oriented services and other services that you can touch and feel. Even if they don't see immediate results from this type of services, chances are that this is what comes to mind when your prospect thinks about marketing.

Depends on HOW small. You don't want new businesses that launched on a shoe string budget. Those are usually the worst to target, biggest pain in the you know what, and they don't have money.

Website design with one time payments and hosting/maintenance for recurring is nice. SEO is good but you have to know what you're doing and you still end up with a lot of churn.

Some businesses could benefit from SMS.

I think 9x12 may be your best bet. Lots of value being provided, decent profit margins, not much skill and follow up needed.
