Can`t get clients - web designer&developer

Hi all,

First of all sorry for my bad English.
So my story is like this,

I started to design and develop websites.
I designed myself a website, made a facebook page and started to "spread the word".

I had found 2 clients so far in the past few months.
Both of them were old, 50+ one of them a lawyer and the other one a psychiatrist.

Now I can`t get new clients for like 2 months.
I`m did cold calls - around 200 calls a week, from the 200 calls I managed to meet with 2 people and after the meeting none of them called me back after i sent them the price offer.

I had also tried to write articles, and using the articles get more people to my website & facebook page - it seems nothing working for me.

I think the problem can be that there are so many businesses designing and developing websites in my general area the competition is really hard.

I would like to get some useful tips from people more experienced then I am.
What I`m doing wrong? how can I improve myself?

Thanks,
Peter

200 calls a week? try more like 100 a day. You should trip over a least 1 lead a day depending on your script.

      I can`t make 100 a day because I`m working - have my regular job.
So when my shift start at 3pm I`m calling businesses from 9am till 2pm.

When I call a business there are few scenarios:

      1. They busy and they can`t talk right now
(When I call them back later they not iterested)

      2. They already have a website (WIX or a regular site)

      3. They ask for my number and say they`ll call me back

      3. They ask for the price without even talk about what kind of website they want or what they want in the website.

Are you calling businesses in the US?

If so and you're doing the cold-calling (and you admit your English isn't good) they're you're facing a real uphill climb.

I get many cold-calls from folks that haven't mastered English and I know immediately they're selling something which causes me to go into a defensive shell. And if I do give then a chance to tell their story, they aren't good enough with English to create any sort of rapport with me, which makes it virtually impossible for them to sell me. For what it's worth virtually all of these calls deal with SEO or website building/improvement.

Thanks for describing the live scenario. If anyone want to make good calls, then he should try to find someone who is good in speaking English.

And it's not just about being able to understand and speak English fluently, it's about the understanding American-slang and understanding American-English tonality.

Jordan Belfort (the "Wolf of Wall Street") says you need 3 things for successful cold calling...

            1. You need to sound enthusiastic.
            2. You need to sound sharp as a tack.
            3. You need to sound like an expert.

When someone who isn't an native Engilsh speaker tries cold calling they're so concerned about using the right words that they end up missing in all 3 areas.

I`m not calling in the US, I`m calling in my country, speaking the native language.

No, the problem isn't that they need websites. The problem is they need/want more revenue.

A website doesn't "do" that for them and a web designer isn't likely going to be able to add anything other than a pretty multi-page business card that's published to the world alongside a frillion other businesses.

Show them how you can generate revenue for them. Quantify it.
