I'm not sure if this was asked before, but when creating mobile apps for offline clients, do you create a new Apple Developer/Google Developer account for each client?

We landed our first client who wanted an exit clause on our monthly maintenance contract. In that clause, they also wanted us to turnover all login information relating to the app.

I'd like to know how the more experienced warriors handle their clients' account setup.

Thanks,
Carlo

Well I don't have specific experience with this but just common sense tells me that if they paid for the app then it's theirs. Not sure why a maintenance agreement would affect that in any way. Maybe I'm misreading this.

Code in a loose term is a "Thing". This "Thing" needs to be "Defined and Assigned". - as my Attorney would say. So part of the contract states that you retain the rights, or that you are giving the rights to your client.

Since it is a bit more than clear that in the contract the "Thing" was not "Defined and Assigned" I would suggest seeking council. Once said council has a made a determination of ownership assignment, you THEN know if you have a leg or not to stand on, and can more forward understanding your position - and possible price.

As to developer accounts, that would be determined again by how the "Thing" is "defined and assigned". If it is YOURS, then you can hold it within YOUR account. If it is the CLIENTS, well then you open one for the CLIENT.

    Hey Carlo,

From person experience and what the client needs you may or may not need to have them have their own developer accounts for iOS and Android.

For free downloadable brick and mortar business apps, I would always use my own developer accounts. The clients usually prefer it that way since it's easier for them. Even if they have basic Google, iAd or other compliant advertising requests to have in their app, I personally think it's OK.

Now, I'm going to say this just because I think it should be said. If you have a client that needs people to make purchases through the app, in app purchases or for users to purchase the app as a download. They will need to have their own iOS and Android Developer accounts for this because this is when money changes hands. Hence, I doubt you'll want to 10-99 them from your Google Merchant or Apple Merchant accounts. Just my .2 cents.

Regarding the exit clauses, I agree. You need legal counsel. But there's always something called professional courtesy to comply and help out the customer as much as you can without it being a strain on your business.

Hey just saw this now.. But thanks for the advice, especially with the in-app purchases request!

Regardless of whether it is a client set up or you are setting up your own websites or PBN whatever.

It makes sense to create individual accounts for each.

You can manage various accounts inside of a single webmaster tools account or analytics but is does make sense from an exit strategy to have individual accounts for anything you wish to pass over to someone in the future.

With individual accounts it makes transfers happen so much more efficiently.

They pay you just handover logins...

    ...you're done.

      PART 1.
So does each individual account cost me $99 with Apple, or can I have several apps in my one Apple account?

      PART 2
I have an app for a pizza place, so are you saying:

      a) If people pay for their pizza through the app, using PayPal, the pizza place would need their own developer account at $99

      b) If people pay for their pizza on delivery, the app would go through my developer account.
