How to market an insurance agent?

by TimPaley 7 replies
Hi guys,
I wanted to know what are some good tactics to market an insurance agent ?

The potential client I have is leaning towards social media but do you guys believe it is a good avenue to market a local insurance agent? Do facebook ads really work?

Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

What is his specialty: P&C, Life/Health, Life Only, Medicare???

This question has been beaten to death in this forum btw. Do some research and I bet you come up with a bunch of ways. Several of us have contributed to those threads with a couple of us being licensed and working in the field. Hope that helps.

Hey, thank you for your reply,
He is currently trying to focus on promoting travel medical and visitor insurance.

Fairly new to this forum so I might have missed those threads.
What do you suggest being my search term. I searched for the keyword "insurance" and the threads you are mentioning didnt show up.

Would you mind giving a link to those threads or tell me how to conduct my search ?
      Thanks!

It sounds like he is promoting medical tourism. Good luck as there are several big time companies that concentrate almost exclusively in that arena. We used to sell a medical policy to people who travel outside the U.S. Not exactly a big return on time invested. In fact, we only sold it to people who asked us for it. That's how much of a demand there is for that.

I am not familiar with the term visitor insurance so I can't help you there. You may wish to start with google. Search medical tourism and you should be on your way to finding what you want.

Oh, by the way, the determining factor in this type of insurance is the destination hospital, clinic or rehab facility. If they don't accept insurance, well guess how many policies you will sell. Of course, it is always possible that the U.S. carrier, if that is the carrier of origin headquarters, may honor bills submitted by someone using overseas facilities. That's a question you need to answer as well.

As for doing research for you or anyone else in this field, no thank you. I do consulting on a fee basis if you are interested.

        Good luck.

First off, YES, facebook ads can work, it takes a bit of effort to learn targeting etc, but this can be done with a decently small budget.

Now in regards to targeting prospects for your clients. Generally speaking where are the folks going that use this insurance? is it say Mexico? or England? or any other specific country?

The moment you get yourself out of the arena of selling "Travelers Insurance" and start selling insurance for those traveling to say New Zealand, I would suggest you quickly separate yourself from the competition.

Developing your clients site to offer medical alert information for separate countries and offering plans as such allows for FAR GREATER targeting of you clients prospect audience.

Following this method will also increase the ease on your end to focus on the countries with greatest interest ( I am immediately drawn to thinking of South Africa as an example ) It would be next to easy at this point to identify where the clients prospects will be IE Reddit groups, Facebook groups, forums etc.

    Hope that Helps.

Thank you for your suggestions! I really like the idea of trying to focus in on one country or maybe 2-3. Will definitely be implementing this into the plan i propose to him.

I guess you are right that if I get the targeting right, Facebook ads can prove beneficial as well. I will have to do some testing on the ad campains and figure out which one provide the best ROI.

    Tim,

How long has your client been selling insurance?

Is he selling a crap product or a good product?

If it is a good thing, he can tap into groups of people who might buy his
product - so it goes viral within in the group. Could be employees,
employees of non-profits, Harley Riders, Airstream camper owners...

(A long time ago I looked at selling health and medical insurance that
covered travelers. I think it was just a get rich quick scheme. I don't work in
this field, so I can't answer the questions I posed - but you don't want to
    waste your time.)

      Thanks for your reply Dan,
He has been in this business for almost 14 years.

Insurance is not his only product offering. He also consults in annuities, segregated funds, retirement and estate planning, etc. So he has a pool of insurance and investment products that he sells.
But he currently wants to start of by promoting his travel medical and visitors insurance products.
When I say visitor insurance, he is focusing more on selling visitors insurance for parents visiting. There is actually a big market for this product as a medical insurance for parents visiting is actually a requirement in order for the parents to get a certain type of visa (for long duration of stay).
