Barber shop value in a web marketing plan?

Hi Warriors,
During one of my last appointments set-up with leads I have been through a barber shop.
I usually always am sure about what I do and how useful would be for a company my services ( I do web design+SEO+online advertising and other things which makes the company earn more customers).
One of my biggest mistakes (I just started since a few months) is taking mom&pop businesses and I really think that I should move to higher ticket clients ASAP.

Anyway, during one of my last appointment I struggled on with a really tormenting doubt.
Would a web marketing plan be useful for an average barber shop?
The client didn't really get the value of what I was proposing him on the failed barber appointment but, did I?

I mean in my 1 million people city there are thousands of barber shop and getting on the first positions of google against them would be really hard.
Plus, the ones who needs their hairs cut off really go through a website? Or do they just check the nearest one on google maps (like I do) and go there?(maybe I'm viewing the things as an individual and not as mass of people?)

I was planning to let him offer a particular plan for university students which would let them have a discount if they gone to the barber shop on a particular day of the week but I still have some doubts about the efficiency of this strategy.

Maybe I'm getting all these self mental complex because I never made a web marketing plan for a Barber shop and I usually really care alot about the results of my customers.

I would like to let you know that each plan that I developed has always worked perfectly for my clients so it's not something coming out of my mind due to inexperience.

I just want to know if you had any previous experience with a Barber shop or what do you do when you feel that your plan would not be the best for a particular company.

Thank you in advance Warriors.

In my world, people find themselves a barber, then go to the same barber forever. They have to move too far or the barber has to move to another location for them to go to another location.

I think you would first go for people who just moved in the neighborhood.

Anyway, the only time I looked up a barber online was when I moved. I went to Google pages, looked up some web sites, then decided I'll stick to my old barber even though I have to drive 18 miles one way.

I agree with DABK... although here in the US if you have a regular barber you go to, and you're in an unfamiliar area, I guess you could say Great Clips or Custom cuts is a safe option.

This is the type of business I've never targeted. I've worked with salons before and that's an entirely different story but a regular barber shop, that's a tough one in my opinion for a couple reasons. The first reason is the average customer value is so small even over the course of a year. The second reason, can they really afford what it would be worth for you to do any work?

My grandpa has gone to the same barber for the past 40 years so I can understand why they could be interested. Seems to me most marketing that's going to be done for a barbershop is going to be DIY type stuff, which brings up a good opportunity for someone to get into the niche of barbershop marketing courses.

DABK, iAm.. I agree with what you are saying... BUT who is the target of the campaign? Its College students... as in probably more than likely 50% are transplants.

This becomes an issue of the geo location of the Shop in comparison to the Schools. There are some rather large Universities in Turin. The University of Turin sits right in at 70,000 students.. that's not a typo, Seventy Thousand and Polytechnic University of Turin is right at 30,000 students.

Do a bit more demographic research and you are quick to see that 70% of the student population in each of these schools are MALE. ( must suck for dating )

Andrea, I would say without question move forward with this with confidence. The overall numbers look like this could be another success story for you.
