How can I minimize the downsides of selling over the phone?

I know that face-to-face sales is ideal for a number of reasons, but being in Thailand, it's just not an option (unless of course I travel back to the US). I'm taking an ambitious new turn in my business that will have me pursuing big client accounts over the phone. I want to make the experiences personal and engaging as possible, not something easy to do on a prolonged phone call.

Perhaps others have dealt with the same issues. I'd appreciate any advice you have on maximizing the phone sale.

My first thought is to do a screen share if possible, so at the very minimum, we're looking at the same thing and their mind isn't wandering during the call quite as much.

    What are you selling? If you are selling something quite complex or want a more "personal and engaged" touch I reccomend you cold call to set up appointments for Webinars where they can see you do a online demostration of what your actually selling.

    I feel like you have a inbuilt assumption as to sell your particular product/service you need to have a very personal touch. Is this really the case? Many wonderful things can be sold over the phone without the other person having ever seen you. Do you competitors sell without the "personal touch?" If the answer is yes the question you should be asking yourself is "why can't I?"

      remember, most of the downsides are in your head and from cultural tendencies to look down on 1 thing, and give higher status to others.

      use your advantages

      leverage your personals as a badge of honor.

      example - being from thailand, in a globally, interconnected world is for the savvy and sophisticated, and 2015

      to use the phone, screen shares, and the Internet reduces costs, that any business will agree with.

      example - Apple will never build cell phones here. too cost prohibitive.

      your a women??? leverage that with your voice, listening skills, and know men like it.

      example - a recent study in the USA, showed real estate agents are more attractive, than the general population.

      the phone is technology (cell phones!)
      a communication tool (like the Internet)
      and is faster than (a plane, horse & buggy, and walking door to door)

      Example - presidents, politicians, prime ministers.... all use the phone to Sell each others views and political agenda.
