Mobile marketing is a very broad topic. Are you talking about SMS?

"Good" as in what? What's your benchmark?

I think that in general it is going to be dependent upon two things:

    1. The niche we are talking about.
    2. The level of market sophistication that the niche is at.

I advise my clients to do all the opt-in they can: in-store signage, training for staff to ask customers, a landing page linked from their homepage or even PPC'd to, etc...

My feeling is that sms/text direct messaging is to be used infrequently --- it's just a hyper-personal way to communicate with customers and it needs to be treated accordingly. If possible for the type of business I do whatever I can to get clients start sending pickup/reminder type of alerts. This helps to condition their customers to receive text messaging from that business and more open to receive additional promotions/offers.

Otherwise, treat it exactly as a CAN-SPAM act email list but with much more care and personal touch.

(just wholly opinion based upon experience)
